planet, and include facts

Research & create a timeline
Mathematical of Earth’s continental land
formation (beginning with the
supercontinent Rodinia
onwards to Earth’s continents
as we know it today). Include
a visual/map for each stage of
your timeline.

Debate on whether Pluto is
or isn’t a planet. First
research, chose whether you
are for or against and get
into teams, then debate! items.
The Universe is a Puzzle
Create a crossword puzzle
about the solar system.
Include key words like sun,
asteroid, milky way, Pluto
etc. and provide clues for
each. Swap your crossword
with a partner to solve each
other’s puzzles.

Conduct a survey with the
class asking the question:

season? Once you have

The Incredible Planet Earth
After watching an episode of
Planet Earth by David
Attenborough, discuss what
facts you found interesting
with a partner.
Planet Reporter
Choose a planet and write a
report on it consisting of key
facts such as size, distance
from earth, distance from
the sun, number of moons
and rotating period. It must
be 1-2 pages.
Hanging from Above
Create a hung mobile of
planet/s using the materials
provided. Then hang it
somewhere in the classroom
for your classmates to see!

Create 2-3 mnemonics for
remembering the order of
the 8 planets. Refer to the
example to get you started.

Design an alien animal that
would live on another
planet’s environment. Make
sure you give the animal
features which allows it to
survive on your planet’s
environment.
Year 5
Out of this World!
Write a daily log journal of
your day if you lived on
another planet.
Tis the Seasons to be Jolly
Choose a season and create
a theme song for it- include
key points about the season.
Drama in Space
In pairs act out an encounter
with an alien on your
favourite planet. Consider
what you would ask the
Alien and how the Alien
might respond.
Kaaa Boom!
Following the recipe guide
students will construct a
volcano and mimic a volcanic
eruption by using bi-carb
soda, vinegar and
detergents.
How on Earth?
Write a short narrative about
how your favourite planet
was born. You can be as
imaginative as you like as
long as you can provide an
explanation for the key
features of the planet.
Did You Hear That?
Listen to the sounds
recorded during a natural
disaster while reflecting on
how this impacted people
and the natural
environment.
Charades!
Choose a card from the deck
and act out a natural
disaster to a partner and get
them to guess what it is (eg.
volcanic eruption, tsunami,
earthquake, tornado etc.)
Capture That!
Throughout the course of
the day students will take a
photo of the sun from the
same position and compare
how the sun moves
throughout the day. Record
this in a visual timeline.

Plan the questions you
would ask in an interview
with an astronaut who just
returned from a mission in

Using the materials provided
create an instrument that
replicates the sound of the
wind you would hear during
a tornado.

Students will conduct an
experiment analysing the
relationship between mass
and gravity by dropping
various items of different
mass from the same height.

Go outside and find 5
different animals in the
surrounding area (eg. an ant
or a bird).Draw the animals
