COURSE DESCRIPTION
Language and Society aims to study and analyze variation within a language. It looks at a difference between speech, writing and
variation in pronunciation between different social classes. It also outlines divergence between men’s and women’s language, and
discusses multilingual communities, pidgins, and creoles, theories of the origin of language, language change, universal grammar and
the ABC’s of language.

CO1. To get familiarize with the nature, aspects and characteristics of language.
CO2. To illustrate the history of language by identifying the different theories of the origin of the language.
CO3. To analyze the different variations within a language.
CO4. To get and overview of how humans acquire language, how they comprehend speech and how they produce it.

The course designed to prepare the future teachers in the actual field of work, especially those who are major in English. It provides
the essentials concept and techniques in the preparation of instructional materials and evaluation tools in teaching. It develops
students skills in making a course syllabus, individual teaching unity, self-learning kit (SLK), self-instructional module, daily lesson plan,
class target, action plan, budget of work and evaluation tools which include the test blue print or table of specification and the various
types of test. It also includes a discussion and instructional objectives. Part of the course is the inclusion of the significant things in the
DECS Service Manual 2000, namely school equipment and furniture, regular classroom facilities, classroom structuring, library facilities,
textbooks and other supplementary materials required by the DepEd.
