Kapitel 3 Leistungsarbeit
For this performance assessment, you will be a customer (Kunde/Kundin) in a travel agency
and your tutor will be the clerk (Angestellte). You want to book a trip, but you are not sure where
you want to go, so your tutor will ask you questions and together you will decide on a trip to
take.
You may take notes on THIS sheet, but on the day of the assessment you will not be allowed to
refer to them. You will be given a “Day-of-Assessment” outline to help lead you through the
conversation, but you will NOT be allowed to use prior notes or refer to this sheet, so be sure to
prepare sufficiently.
For extra practice refer to Tutorstunde 3E, Übung 2--that dialogue is very similar to this
performance assessment
Roles:
Kunde/Kundin (customer)—You
Angestellte (worker/clerk)—Tutor
This is a rough sample of the conversation you will have with your tutor.
These are all SAMPLE responses. You do not have to say exactly what is written here,
they are just intended to help you study so that you know at least one way to answer the
questions.
You will wait for the Angestellte to ask how he/she can help you.
You are not sure where you want to go, so you will ask the Angestellte if there are any special
offers.
1
The Angestellte will say yes and ask how you would like to travel (what mode of transportation
do you want to use).
Tell him/her how you would like to travel (ex. by car, plane, train, bike, etc.).
--Remember that in German we use the preposition ‘mit’ with modes of transportation
and ‘mit’ is a DATIVE pronoun, so whatever comes after it will be in the dative case (mit
Tell the Angestellte that you don’t want to go to their suggested place because it’s…
--too boring, too expensive, too cold, etc., so you would like to go somewhere else
*remember: ‚weil‘ is a verb kicker, that is why ‚ist‘ is at the end of the
sentence
[above and beyond]—you can get bonus points here if you use more complicated
constructions like the following:
2
You aren’t sure about this place either, so ask a couple of questions about it.
*don’t ask them at the same time, give your tutor time to respond to each
Tell him/her whether you like the suggestion and ask another question about the location.
*schwimmen, wandern, Fußball spielen, relaxen, Eis essen, Kaffee trinken, etc.
3
Angestellte will tell you a price.
Above and Beyond: Your Angestellte is really busy, so he/she may make a mistake
and overcharge you for your trip, if so, let them know that they made a mistake.
The two of you will then say your goodbyes and you’re finished!
Hints
-Fahren, gehen, reisen are essentially interchangeable here, so you can use the one(s) you’re
most comfortable with.
-pay attention to the word order on this sheet to help you with your own word order
-using words like ‘aber trotzdem,’ and ‘ausserdem’ and other more complicated constructions
will earn you bonus points
