1.1 Project description

This structural calculation contains the calculation of the internal forces and the verifications of the
structural safety of a solar mounting structure, which is to be installed in open area (ground-mount
system).

by means of clamps. According to the grid spaces of the supporting structure, the purlins rest on girders
that are supported in regular distances.

3 Design calculations

3.1 Purlins

Steel purlins are applied for the transmission of the loads into the supporting elements. From a structural
point of view, they are regarded as continuous beams with cantilever on both sides. While producing and
assembling these can be considered as beam with internal hinges and be jointed with splices in the
specific gerber positions.

The load actions by wind and snow have to be positioned unfavourably span-wise for the determination
of the section forces. The calculation is performed using the factors for continuous beams with
equidistant spans.

In order to determine the section forces in the substructure components, the wind forces have to be
positioned as a concentrated load in the quarter points of the module surface.
Consequently, there are two load positions of wind forces for each load combination. According to this, 6
load combinations have to be evaluated to determine the decisive loads.

defined anchoring depth. This affords corresponding ground surveys load tests to evaluate the

5 Verification of joints and connections

5.1 Fastening of the modules onto the purlins and connection of the purlins to the cross beams

The connection of the purlins to the cross beams is carried out by means of clamp fasteners. Due to
limited standards for reliable calculations, the strength of the clamp fasteners has been evaluated by
tests.

Fastening of the modules to the purlins max F z = 1.96 kN < P Rd = 3.60 kN

Connection of the purlins to the cross beams max F z = 5.95 kN < P Rd = 11.00 kN
(bearing capacities of the connections according to the data sheets provided by the company Schle

5.2 Connection of the girder to the foundation post

The essential constructive feature of the structure is the design of the connection between the inclined
cross beams to the support heads of the foundation posts. The detailed design must meet the following
technical requirements:

● Transmission of internal forces from unfavourable load position Δz = ± 20.00 mm

● Compensation of tolerances caused by the pile driving of the support profiles Δβ = ± 2 °
● Tolerances in longitudinal and transverse direction Δx = ± 15.00 mm

By means of a bolt, the girder is connected to an adjustable strut that is hooked in in the course of the
mounting process. The height adjustment is realized using a slotted hole whose position is secured by
corrugated plates and a corrugated structure of
