Topic: My toys

Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the Ss will be able to:


- Present and practice the names of toys;
- Practice expressions like: I like …..; My favorite toy is ………..
Language: In this lesson, the pupils will learn to understand:
 How many planes? Let’s count!
 What have you got?
In this lesson, the pupils will learn to use:

 Yes!; No!
 Toys: doll; ball; car; train; plane; teddy bear
 Here’s a doll!
 It’s got a brown teddy bear!

Stages of the lesson

I. WARM UP
Aims - to get students ready for the English class by having an informal conversation;
-to warm them up;
Procedure: Teacher greets the students, introduces the guests. Teacher walks with Daisy, the
puppet and asks students different questions: Pupils respond to informal questions.

Q 1: “ What’s your name?”


Q 2: “ How old are you?”
Q 3: “ What’s your favorite color?”
Q 4: “ What’s your favorite animal?”

II. CHECKING PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE


Aims: - to review recently taught vocabulary about weather;
Procedure: Teacher holds up weather flashcards about weather, one at a time and says an
incorrect sentence about the weather. She then invites students to respond, answering yes
or no. Ask the pupils to answer yes or no.
e.g. Teacher: ( holding us a It’s sunny flashcard) – It’s cloudy!
Pupils: No!!!
Afterwards, teacher sings together with the students The weather song: “ How’s the weather?”
Time: 5 minutes

III. LEAD IN
Aims: - to set a situation and provide a context for the new topic;

- to motivate and elicit vocabulary;

- to introduce new vocabulary necessary for the presentation.

Procedure: Teacher brings into the class a bag that she can fit about 5 toys into: a puppet, a
teddy bear, a ball; a doll; a robot; kite;a toy car, a train. Teacher makes a big show of putting
her hand into the bag and feeling around a toy. Once she has a toy in her hand, she shouts; Look!
I’ve got a train! After a few goes, she passes the bag around class for the children to pick a toy
themselves. This way, teacher can lead the question: Is it big or small? And they only have to
answer yes or no.

Time: 5 minutes

IV. PRESENTATION - POSTER


Aim: - to have fun;

-to practice the recently learned vocabulary

Procedure: Pin up the My Toys poster on the board. Point to the toys: ( doll, ball, car, train,
teddy bear), one at a time and say the words. The pupils repeat after you. Point to the toys in
random order and say:

e.g. Here’s a doll!


Here’s a teddy bear!
Individual students name the toys by coming to the board and showing them on the board.

Time: 7 minutes
Interaction: T –Ss; Ss - T
Have all the students sit down. Teacher starts by holding up each toy and passing it around.
When passing it, teacher makes sure each student says the word for the toy as they pass it. Next,
put all the toys in a box and have everyone close their eyes. Pull out a toy and say: Open your
eyes!-everyone must open their eyes and shout out the word for the toy that she is holding.
Teacher plays this for all the toys.

Time: 10 minutes

V. CONTROLLED PRACTICE - Listen and circle,


then sing
Activity 1

Aims: -to check if students have memorized the toys;


- to improve their listening skills;
- to have fun while singing the song and clapping their hands at the same time;
Procedure: Point to the boy on the poster and say: boy. The pupils repeat after you. Do the same
with the girl. Then point to the train and say: I’ve got a train! The pupils repeat after the teacher.
Then point to the ball and enclourage students to finish teacher’s sentence:

I’ve got a ( doll)! Teacher repeats this …… with the other toys as well.

Then, teacher plays a recording. She asks pupils to listen to the song and circle the toys they
hear. Check their answers. Play the recording again encouraging the students to sing along while
clapping their hands.

ACTIVITY 3 – COUNT AND SAY

Aim: - to revise numbers and associate them with toys

Procedure: Each student is given a worksheet. The same worksheet that the students are given
is displayed on the board as well. She asks students to count from 1 to 10 and then she asks
them:

T: How many planes? Let’s count!

Teacher elicits the answer: One plane! Students have to solve this worksheet individually and
then they have to come to the board and match the toys with the numbers.

Time: 8 minutes

ENDING THE ACTIVITY

Aim: - to consolidate the language of the lesson;


- to relax

Procedure: Teacher shows students a box full of toys. One student goes in front of the
classroom, takes a toy out of the box while the others keep their eyes closed.

Pupil: What have I got? and the other pupils have to guess.

The pupil who guesses the toy can come in front of the classroom a choose a toy himself. Repeat
this activity so that all the students participate.
