APPROACH — An approach or perspective is a

way of looking topics within psychology.

APPROACHES IN PSYCHOLOGY
I. BIOLOGICAL APPROACH – The
biological approach in psychology focuses on
understanding the neuro-biological functioning that
underline behaviors and mental processes.
II. COGNITIVE APPROACH – The
cognitive approach deals with the mental processes
that are linked to behaviors. This is the most
scientific and systematic approach in psychology.
III. PSYCHOANALYTIC APPROACH –
The psychoanalytic approach is concerned with the
study of behaviors which is linked to the unconscious
mind. This approach helps people with psychological
problems.
IV. BEHAVIORAL APPROACH – The
behavioral approach study of overt behaviors that
are based on conditioning and reinforcement.
V. HUMANISTIC APPROACH – The
humanistic approach studies behaviors and mental
processes in terms of self-actualization and efficacy.
VI. CROSS – CULTURAL APPROACH –
The cross-cultural approach focuses on the influence
of cultural and ethical similarities and differences on
the social and psychological functioning of the
members of a culture.
VII. EVOLUTIONARY APPROACH – The
evolutionary approach studies how evolutionary
ideas like adaptation and natural selection explains
behaviors and mental processes.
VIII. ECLECTIC APPROACH – Eclectic
approach is a modern approach in psychology. It is
used to study the same behavior through different
perspectives and approaches.
