Citation of external sources I
Quotations

▪ citations have footnotes (superscript + ongoing numbering)


▪ direct citations:
▪ accuracy in every letter
▪ changes indicated by brackets and “annotation of the author“
▪ left out letters indicated by “...“
▪ usually do not exceed 2-3 sentences
otherwise: indentation + single line spacing
▪ indirect citations:
▪ footnotes start with cf. (compare for)
▪ beginning and ending indicated
▪ if authors are mentioned by name → “small capitals“
▪ citation within citations indicated by apostrophes

Quotations

▪ original text has to be cited


▪ if the original text is not available, secondary literature can be
quoted
▪ indicate by ‘cited by‘
▪ data of original and second source included
▪ citations have to be used in the sense intended by the original
author

Every use of external intellectual property has to be


marked by the use of exact notations.

▪ if the quotation is from more than 1 page, use pp. (e.g. pp. 5-10.)

▪ figures/tables are numbered according to appearance


▪ Figure 1, Figure 2, Table 1, Figure 3, Table 2

▪ if the figure is from another author or adapted from another


source → reference is needed!

The designing of own figures or development of pre- exiting


ones is highly recommended.
