ACTIVITY COMPLETION REPORT

I. ACTIVITY

Earthquake Preparedness Drill

II. VENUE

Tambis Primary School Ground, February 21, 2019

III. SUMMARY

The school conducted an Earthquake Drill to keep everyone,

especially the pupils, abreast of the “do’s and don’ts” when such calamity
strikes. It also serves as a training ground of the children to be highly responsive
in saving oneself and others as well.

On Febuary 21, 2019, at exactly 9:00 in the morning, Tambis Primary

School teachers initiated the conduct of earthquake drill. It started by an alarm,
through continuous bell ringing that lasted for one minute. While the alarm was
on-going, the pupils enacted their basic response: “DOCK, COVER, HOLD!” Every
pupil docked while seeking for a safer place to hide against possible debris or
falling objects with their left hand covering their heads. Most of them looked for a
durable/fixed furniture and hid underneath them. Their right hands held the posts
of the furniture to keep them at stable position. After the alarm had stopped, they
waited for twenty seconds before they went out to proceed to an evacuation
area. Their two hands covered their heads while they assembled in the plaza. The
teachers then facilitated the head count as one way of checking them up and
ensuring that everyone is safe and secured whenever an earthquake strikes.

In addition, the teachers stressed out that a book or a rug may also
be used in covering or protecting their heads. It was also being emphasized that
containing a first aid kit at home is very helpful in case of such phenomenon.

Through the collaborative efforts of the teachers and pupils, the

objective of the activity was carried out. Pre-assigned tasks were completely
done, routine of activities were being followed, and the reenactment was
seriously responded.
IV. Problems Encountered if Any

The school doesn’t have durable furniture which were supposedly be

used by the pupils on the actual drill.

V. Lesson Learned

Earthquake drill must not be responded with only superficial

impression or attitude because it could widen the understanding and insights
of the pupils on what to do to overcome/survive against such calamity.

VI. Sustainability or Replication

If constant practice makes perfect, then constant reminders and

integration would possibly ensure that everyone in the community is ready to
face earthquake phenomenon. Not only during allotted drill activity have
the pupils been being reminded of but also during teaching-learning
instruction especially when the objectives are lined with nature/environment.
