New global economic forecasts show importance
of running surpluses, paying down debt
The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF)
latest global economic forecasts are a
timely reminder of why the Coalition
Government is running surpluses, sensibly
managing debt and focussing on policies
to support growth, Finance Minister
Grant Robertson says.
The IMF has upgraded its growth forecasts
for New Zealand compared to April,
closer to the Treasury’s forecasts. While
this is welcome, the broader IMF World
Economic Outlook released today also
shows why we need to keep a close eye on
international economic developments.
“The global outlook shows a downward
revision in global growth forecasts over
the next two years. Global economic
growth of 3.7 percent in 2018 and 2019
is down 0.2 percentage points each year
compared to April,” Grant Robertson said.
“The global growth downgrade is largely
due to rising international trade tensions
and disappointing global activity. It’s a
timely reminder of why the Government
is ensuring the books are in order and
strong enough to protect the economy
and New Zealanders from any rainy day
such as changes in the international
economy. “The IMF has recognised New
Zealand’s sound economic fundamentals,
with forecasts for growth of around 3%
in 2018 and 2019. The upgraded view of
New Zealand’s economic outlook follows
the IMF’s review of Budget 2018, which
included growth-friendly policies like the
R&D incentive, the Provincial Growth
Fund, and record transport infrastructure
investment.
“While the IMF’s forecasts are slightly
below the Treasury’s, they are strong
compared to other advanced economies.
The average forecast New Zealand growth
rate over 2018 and 2019 is stronger
than forecasts for Australia, the US,
the Euro area, Japan, Canada and the
UK,” Grant Robertson said. In a second
report released today, the IMF said
New Zealand’s fiscal outlook is positive,
and that the Government is expected
to continue running surpluses and
controlling debt.

A colourful start of festive season and
Heritage walk at Bharatiya Mandir
The oldest Hindu temple of New Zealand
Bharatiya Mandir, once again added
another feather in its already full hat. This
year for the first time, Auckland Council
had included the biggest community hub
of Indians people in Auckland, Bharatiya
Mandir, for their annual Heritage Week
walk.
A group of around 200 local kiwis, young
and old, men and women and even some
very young kids were part of those curious
enthusiasts who thronged the temple on
a beautiful Saturday afternoon on 6th
October. Trustee chairperson of the Mandir
committee Roshan Nauhria, welcomed
the visitors and President Hemant Prashar
gave them a brief about Mandir history, its
functioning and that how in all these years,
Mandir has become such an important
place for Indian community, and not just a
place of worship only. One of the devotees

Hindu Dharma-concept of Divinity, Avatars,

role of priests, role of Gurus and different
paths to follow etc. The visitors were then
spilt into several groups with Mandir
volunteers acting as their guides took them

church, which is now Mandir property. All
the guests were very impressed to know
about the services being provided by the
Mandir to the wider Indian community,
most of which are free to them. Later the
visit concluded with a cup of tea and hot
snacks and sweets served to all. The visitors
seemed overwhelmed with the hospitality
they were provided throughout their stay
and some of them bidding good bye saying
that they will be back some time soon.
Later Navaratri festivities started on
Wednesday 10th of October all over the
world and Bharatiya Mandir was also the
place of action. This year a very famous
musical group of four from India, Sur
Ganga group, is performing at the Mandir
which is led by Mohan Bhai. Mohan bhai
has performed previously also at Bharatiya
Mandir. The Navaratri programme start
from 10th October and will go until 19th of
October. Garba songs and dance start every
evening at 7:30 and finishes late in the night
after 10:30. The Navaratri programme are
being conducted by some temples as well
such as Shirdi Sai Mandir in Onehunga and
Sri Ram Mandir in Henderson.

Relation with Russia top
priority: PM Modi
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who
was on a two-day state visit to India,
left for Moscow on Friday evening.
Putin visited India to attend the 19th
India-Russia bilateral annual summit.
During his visit, India and Russia signed
several agreements on Friday including
the much-awaited agreement for the
purchase of five S-400 Triumph air
defence missile systems.
The two sides also signed a civil nuclear
agreement that will pave way for new
nuclear power projects of Russian
design in India, and collaboration in
third countries.
India and Russia also signed eight
agreements that ranged from space
cooperation to nuclear and transport
sector. Russia expressed its support
for India's membership of the Nuclear
Suppliers Group.
Stating that India gives top priority to
its relation with Russia, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on Friday said that the
relationship between both countries is
an important factor for global peace and
stability.
Briefing the media, the Prime Minister
said, "India gives top priority to its
relations with Russia. Our relationships
in this world have become more
relevant. Our Special and Privileged
Strategic Partnership has consistently
received new energy and direction
from the continuous series of nineteen

The festival of Navratri is a time for self-referral and getting

evil, the actual fight is not between good

view, the victory is of the absolute reality

tries to keep its identity separate from

city - except for bombing

Beware the viral Facebook hoax that’s tricking people
into thinking their account was hacked
Over the weekend, you might have
seen a wave of panicked friends in your
Facebook news feeds posting warnings:
Their accounts were hacked; don’t
accept friend requests that appear to
be from them. Or maybe you received a
private message warning you that your
account had been compromised.
The warning spread in the form of a
message, sent from a friend or “friend.”
The message claims that the sender
received a suspicious friend request
from you, and that the proper way
to address this disturbing news is to
immediately share the message they
sent to you with all your friends.
It reads something like this:
“Hi....I actually got another friend
request from you which I ignored so
you may want to check your account.
Hold your finger on the message until
the forward button appears...then hit
forward and all the people you want
to forward too....I had to do the people
individually. PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT
A NEW friendship FROM ME AT THIS
TIME.”
Should you be worried? Well, we have
some good news and bad news. The
good news is: Chances are, you were
not hacked if you received this message,
nor are you being impersonated on

Google is going to shut down its
social media network Google+ after
the company suffered a massive data
breach that exposed the private data of
hundreds of thousands of Google Plus
users to third-party developers.
According to the tech giant, a security
vulnerability in one of Google+'s People
APIs allowed third-party developers
to access data for more than 500,000
users, including their usernames, email
vulnerability exposed 500,000 users' data
addresses, occupation, date of birth,
profile photos, and gender-related
information.
Since Google+ servers do not keep
API logs for more than two weeks, the
company cannot confirm the number of
users impacted by the vulnerability.
However, Google assured its users that
the company found no evidence that any
developer was aware of this bug, or that
the profile data was misused by any of
the 438 developers that could have had
access.
The vulnerability was open since 2015
and fixed after Google discovered
it in March 2018, but the company
chose not to disclose the breach to the
public—at the time when Facebook was
being roasted for Cambridge Analytica
scandal.
Besides admitting the security breach,
Google also announced that the
company is shutting down its social
media network, acknowledging that
Google+ failed to gain broad adoption or
significant traction with consumers.
In response, the company has decided to
shut down Google+ for consumers by the
end of August 2019. However, Google+
will continue as a product for Enterprise
users.
Google shares fell over 2 percent to
$1134.23 after the data breach reports.

The insurance company that
compensated reality TV star Kim
Kardashian after her Paris robbery is all
set to sue her former bodyguard, Pascal
Duvier.
According to court documents, American
International Group (AIG) filed a lawsuit
on Wednesday against Pascal Duvier and
his company -Protect Security- for USD
6.1 million.
According to the complaint, the
company claimed that Duvier, along with
the security firm, "negligently, carelessly,
and/or recklessly" performed their duties
of protecting the star and the apartment
she stayed at while attending the Paris
Fashion Week in October 2016.
Notably, AIG said that Kim, who was
left alone in her room, somehow failed
to address several security breaches,
including a missing/broken lock, a
malfunctioning intercom and lack of
CCTV surveillance in the building.
Kim Kardashian was held at gunpoint
and was robbed of around USD 10
million in cash and jewellery.
Duvier has earlier provided security to
the Black Eyed Peas, apart from other
members of Kim's family.

The 2018 Blue September Blue Oscars event was held at Mikano
Restaurant in order to raise awareness towards Prostate Cancer. The
Blue Ribbon committee members comprised of Usha Jacobs, Minnie
Sharma, Babita Maharaj, Angela Maharaj, Nisi Bansal and Ashla
Kaushik. The Master of Ceremony for the event was Sam Maharaj.
The evening featured Ambassador for Prostate Cancer Himanshu
Shah who told spoke about his positive real-life experience with this
disease. He shared the risks for men, the need for regular check-
ups and most importantly to avoid procrastination. The speech was
received with a standing ovation for Himanshu and wife Chaya Shah.
This was followed with a scrumptious dinner and the Reality Fashion
Show hosted by Usha Jacobs, the Event Organiser. A fun filled
catwalk featuring Mr Deven Maharaj, Mr Kevin Broad, Mr Daven
Naidu, Mr Vinit Sharma and Mr Immanuel Yaqub.
The major sponsors included Allcold Refrigeration, McDonalds Vineet Sharma, A
and Subway. The biggest hit however was auctioneer Aaron Grom
Harcourts, Parnell and together the team was able to raise more than
$10000.
Finally, the Blue Oscars were presented, judged by an anonymous
judge with categories consisting of The young Philanthropist of the
Future, Best dressed Male and Female and Best dressed Couple.
The Event Organiser Usha Jacobs of Elegant Events Creations Ltd
together with her team of ladies thanked all the sponsors and the
attendees. The event was powered by The Indian News as media

Hockey WC mascot 'Olly'
In the run-up to 2018 Men's Hockey
World Cup slated to be held in
Bhubaneshwar, Odisha government

launched the official mascot, named
'Olly' at the Puri sea beach in Odisha, on
