ASSIGNMENT
DATELINE 22/04/2019 (Monday) by 12 pm
Instructions
Question 1
A process change is made which involves switching the type of catalyst used in the
process. Following the process change, eight batch viscosity measurements are taken:
735 775 729 755 783 760 738 780
Assume that the process variability is unaffected by the catalyst change. If the
difference in mean batch viscosity is 10 or less, the manufacturer would like to
detect it with high probability.

Question 2
Test the hypothesis that average body weight is the same for two independent
diagnosis groups from one hospital.
Diagnosis group 1 data : [132, 145, 124, 122, 165, 144, 151]
Diagnosis group 2 data : [141, 139, 172, 131, 150, 125]
You may assume that the data are normally distributed, with equal variance in the
two groups. Draw the conclusion with 0.05

a) Compute the estimates of the effects and their standard errors for this
design.
b) Construct two-factor interaction plots and comment on the interaction of
the factors.
c) Compute an approximate 95% confidence interval for each effect (assume
equal variance).
d) Perform and analysis of variance of the appropriate regression model for
this design. Include in your analysis hypothesis tests for each coefficient.
e) State your final conclusions about the adequacy of the model.

CLB20903 JANUARY 2019
The compressive strength of concrete is being studied, and four different mixing
techniques are being investigated. The following data have been collected.
Mixing
Compressive Strength (kN/m2)
Technique
1 21590 20700 19768 19941
2 22080 22770 20527 21666
3 19320 20010 20596 21045
4 17940 18630 17940 19078
a) Test the hypothesis that mixing techniques affect the strength of the
concrete. Use 0.05
b) Calculate a 99% confidence interval on the compressive strength of
concrete.
