POSITION: emsTradepoint Market Analyst

CONTRIBUTION TO TRANSPOWER:
The Market Analyst is part of emsTradepoint, a wholly owned subsidiary of Transpower. emsTradepoint
owns and operates a physical commodity exchange focusing on natural gas. The team faciliates trading on
the proprietary trading system and develops product listings, execution methods, systems and
technologies to deliver meaningful services to customers.

This position plays a key role in the team and provides support on all emsTradepoint operations and
market developments in order to ensure industry leading levels of customer satisfaction for participants
and strategic partners.

The role is responsible for core operational tasks as follows:


▪ Support of the daily operations of the emsTradepoint market.
▪ Development and maintenance of business processes.
▪ Undertaking and preparing market analysis and trading reports.
▪ Proactive customer support and problem resolution.
▪ Undertaking analyses to inform risk management, financial control and development.
▪ Assist in business development activities.
▪ Development of business cases and papers to Management as and when required.

WHAT YOU ARE EXPECTED TO DELIVER:


Operational Support • Monitor the emsTradepoint market on an intra-day basis and
provide first point-of-call support / respond to queries for
customers.
• Undertake regular (daily, weekly, monthly) market operations
processes.
• Develop operational and diagnostic / alerting systems and
processes, and contribute to on-going process improvement.
• Monitor and maintain compliance with emsTradepoint’s Market
Rules and relevant pipeline operating codes.

• Manage system incidents and resolution, and comply with best
practices that are produced after conducting an investigation on
any major issue.
• Provide training on emsTradepoint’s trading system and
operations to customers.
• Prepare training materials, market notices and other information
documents on the market and technology.
Reporting and Analytics • Prepare and develop regular (currently weekly) Market Wrap
reports for participants.
• Support annual reports on market performance and ad-hoc
reports on industry developments.
• Assist in reporting to the General Manager, Finance and the Board.
Market Development Support • Keep abreast of regulatory change and industry environment, and
assist in evaluating the impact of any change on emsTradepoint’s
operations.
• Assist the team in the development, modification and testing of
necessary support infrastructure and tools to support new product
releases.
• Identify opportunitites for service enhancements.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:


Essential:
• Excellent numerical competence and accuracy, including ability to work with spreadsheets
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills
• Effective customer management and customer satisfaction skills
• Demonstrated self-confidence, self-control, and self-reliance
• Ability to manage crises and escalations
• Excellent written, oral and presentation skills

• Ability to develop an understanding of gas transmission and operating codes
Desirable:
• Tertiary qualification in maths, sciences, engineering, or equivalent business experience.
• Knowledge in gas transmission and associated codes; market design and operations and/or
energy/commodity trading.
