POSITION: Graduate Engineer (Power Systems)

REPORTING TO: Talent and Development Specialist


LOCATION: Wellington (with various placements around the country)

CONTRIBUTION TO TRANSPOWER:
The Graduate Engineer (Power Systems) is a member of the Transpower Graduate Development
Programme, which is responsible for producing Graduate Engineers who have potential to become leaders
in our business. Graduates are expected to develop their technical knowledge, and display the Transpower
Behaviours (Clarity, Collaboration, Accountability, and Delivery) while rotating through Graduate
Placements throughout our business.

This position will develop a trained Graduate Engineer with a good understanding of power system
principles, who is able to apply university theory to power systems management, and who is able to be
employed in more than one area of the business. The graduate will have a good introductory level
understanding of the New Zealand electricity supply industry now, as well as where it is going to in the
future. The Graduate will have established networks throughout Transpower

WHAT YOU ARE EXPECTED TO DELIVER:


Complete Graduate • Complete all required activities on the graduate learning
Development Activities framework, and all tasks set for you on your placements so that you
develop a broad knowledge of Transpower’s business, as well as the
necessary technical and behavioural competencies that will
prepare you to succeed in a variety of roles after the graduate
programme.
Effective Relationship • Proactively build and maintain positive, constructive relationships
Management within Transpower and with relevant external stakeholders so that
you are well placed to succeed in a variety of roles after the
graduate programme.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:


Essential:
• Bachelor of Engineering Honours degree with specialisation in Electrical & Electronics, or other relevant
discipline
• A good understanding of power system principles
• Proficient in the use of relevant computer applications
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
• A basic knowledge of the New Zealand electricity supply industry, and an interest in the future of this
dynamic industry
• A good understanding of power system design, construction, operation and maintenance; static and
dynamic modelling of power systems; the behaviour of power system plant and equipment in service;
and the changing of the condition of these assets over time
• A full drivers licence
