II. Rationale:
Physics is perceived as a difficult subject for secondary and tertiary students. The
difficulty in physics, according to Assefa (2008), are identified in four major areas that
physics students has been facing the problems, namely: lack of interest, poor problem
solving skills, poor understanding of the concept of physics, and lack of skill in
practical work respectively. However some students claimed that physics was not as
difficult as they had believed it to be and they reported that it was interesting, enjoyable
and relevant (Mrazek, Rick, 2010).
Republic Act No. 10533, otherwise known as the “Enhanced Basic Education Act of
2013”, was signed into law by President Aquino on May 15, 2013.
IV. Objectives:
1. To arouse students interest in learning physics;
2. To develop/acquire problem solving and practical work skills:
3. To help students enhance their understanding of the physics concepts;
4. To provide specific learning assistance to student (referred to as a friend in this
project) by other student (the one who is appointed to teach) who has
demonstrated competence in Physics.
5. Improve students’ performance in physics.
V. Mechanics:
1. Science Teachers from each class will identify students who will and must agree to
participate in the TeP-taF project.
2. Students who demonstrate competence in Physics will be assigned to teach other
students (referred to as a friend in this project) with difficulties in the said subject.
3. Selected students to teach will be trained by their science teachers on how to conduct
TeP-taF sessions properly.
4. Implementers must establish strong camaraderie, trusting relationship and friendly
atmosphere among the students to teach and their friends/learners;
5. School heads, science department heads and teachers must monitor the conduct of
TeP-taF sessions and students’ progress;
6. TeP-taF sessions will be scheduled before or after school or at lunch time for a
minimum of 1 hour a week.
7. Parents must be informed about the purpose of the project, the anticipated outcomes
and their children’s progress. Their consent must be obtained before a student is
included in the TeP-taF project.
8. Parents also have the right to withdraw their children from attending TeP-taF
sessions should they so wish.
9. Science education supervisor, school heads, science department heads, teachers, and
instructional managers shall be the lead implementers of the project and must ensure
that it is in adherence to DepEd order #40, s. 2012, also known as DepEd Child
Protection Policy.
