Sudden changes in water flow affect the inside of the cast iron pipes in our city (30%) and this creates the discolouration.
When will the discolouration stop?
Once the city repairs the break, we will flush our system which will eliminate the discolouration in the city’s system and we will restore normal operations. Homeowners will be required to flush their lines, using the lowest cold water tap closest to the water meter in the house for at least 15-20 minutes. However, due to the magnitude of this water main break, it may take longer.
How will I know when to flush my lines?
We will be posting notices on social media, our website and regular media or you can call 905-835-5079.
Is the water safe to drink?
The water is unlikely to cause health issues however we recommend flushing until clear.
Why is my water low pressure?
Is it low from a specific faucet or throughout the house? Take off any aerators from taps and clean them. If it remains low, call 905-835-5079.
There is damage to my property, what do I do?
Contact your insurance company and any claim related issues, should be directed to our City Clerk at City Hall.
