“Neither do I condemn you” This week:

Today’s gospel contains a story of
forgiveness and redemption within a Sun 7 Lent V
context of political violence where a 9:30 Sung Mass (St S)
woman is hounded by a mob and no 11am Sung Mass (St G)
longer treated as a person. In many Mon 8:
ways it is a prelude to what will 6pm Mass (St G)
happen to Jesus during Holy Week. 6.45 Stations (St G)
There is an opportunity to enter Tues 9:
deep within this story and identify 10am Mass (St S)
with the woman, with her accusers 6.45 Stations (St S)
and also to commit ourselves again Wed 10:

Holy Week Services - Now available is a list of the services for Holy Week for people to take
home. The main change is that this year it is St Saviour’s turn to host the Good Friday Parish Priest:

COLLECT
Most merciful God, who by the
death and resurrection of your
Son Jesus Christ delivered and
saved the world: grant that by
faith in him who suffered on the
cross we may triumph in the
power of his victory; through

who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

FIRST READING
The First reading is from the prophet
Isaiah.
Thus says the Lord, who made a way
through the sea, a path in the great
waters; who put chariots and horse in
the field and a powerful army
which lay there never to rise again,
snuffed out, put out like a wick:
No need to recall the past, no need to
think about what was done before. See,
I am doing a new deed,
even now it comes to light; can you not
see it? Yes, I am making a road in the
wilderness, paths in the wilds.
The wild beasts will honour me, jackals
and ostriches, because I am putting
water in the wilderness
(rivers in the wild) to give my chosen
people drink. The people I have formed
for myself will sing my praises.
This is the word of the Lord.

Indeed we were glad.
When the Lord delivered Zion from
bondage,

Psalm 126
SECOND READING
A reading from St Paul’s letter to the
Philippians.
I believe nothing can happen that will
outweigh the supreme advantage of
knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For him I
have accepted the loss of everything,
and I look on everything as so much
rubbish if only I can have Christ and be
given a place in him. I am no longer
trying for perfection by my own efforts,
the perfection that comes from the Law,
but I want only the perfection that
comes through faith in Christ, and is
from God and based on faith. All I want
is to know Christ and the power of his
resurrection and to share his sufferings
by reproducing the pattern of his death.
That is the way I can hope to take my
place in the resurrection of the dead.
Not that I have become perfect yet: I
have not yet won, but I am still running,
trying to capture the prize for which
Christ Jesus captured me. I can assure
you my brothers, I am far from thinking
that I have already won. All I can say is
that I forget the past and I strain ahead
for what is still to come; I am racing for
the finish, for the prize to which God
calls us upwards to receive in Christ
Jesus.

A reading from the Holy Gospel
according to St John.
While Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
Early in the morning he came again to
the temple. All the people came to him
and he sat down and began to teach
them. The scribes and the Pharisees
brought a woman who had been caught
in adultery; and making her stand before
all of them, they said to him, ‘Teacher,
this woman was caught in the very act of
committing adultery. Now in the law
Moses commanded us to stone such
women. Now what do you say?’ They
said this to test him, so that they might
have some charge to bring against him.
Jesus bent down and wrote with his
finger on the ground. When they kept on
questioning him, he straightened up and
said to them, ‘Let anyone among you
who is without sin be the first to throw a
stone at her.’ And once again he bent
down and wrote on the ground. When
they heard it, they went away, one by
one, beginning with the elders; and
Jesus was left alone with the woman
standing before him. Jesus straightened
up and said to her, ‘Woman, where are
they? Has no one condemned you?’ She
said, ‘No one, sir.’ And Jesus said,
‘Neither do I condemn you. Go your way,
and from now on do not sin again.
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
