Rules for Abhikalpan: 2019

1. Music
A. Classical vocal solo
1. Cinema songs under no circumstances are allowed.
2. Judgment will be based on different qualities like Taal, selection of raga,
composition and general impression.

B. Classical instrumental percussion


1. Participants must bring their own instruments.

2. Judgment will be based on different qualities like Taal, selection of raga,


composition and general impression.

C. Classical instrument non-percussion


1. Participants must bring their own instruments.
2. Judgment will be based on different qualities like Taal, selection of raga,
composition and general impression.
3. Keyboard/synthesizer not allowed.

D. Light vocal solo


Stage 2
The rules are as same as they are specified above the stages for stage 2. 1. Only
non film songs/Geet/Ghazal/Bhajan/Shabad and Abhangas can be presented.
2. Judgment will be based on different qualities like Taal, selection of raga,
composition and general impression.
There are two stages for the selection process:

Stage 1
1.1 There will be screening process from which top 10 contestants will be
qualified for stage 2.
1.2 Time of 4+1 minutes will be given in the screening process.

E. Group song Indian


1. Group song should be taken from Indian songs which may be in regional language.
2. A team has to present in total 2 songs, one of which must be patriotic.
3. Film songs are not allowed (except patriotic songs).
4. Judgement will be based upon quality of singing only and not on makeup,
costumes & action of the team.

F. Western vocal solo


1. Only English songs will be allowed.
2. Judgment will be based upon qualities like composition, rhythm, coordination and
general impression.

G. Western group song


1. Only English songs will be allowed.
2. Judgment will be based upon quality of singing only and not on makeup, costumes
and action of team.

Dance
A. Classic dance solo
1. Cd’s/cassettes are allowed for purpose of music.
2. Classical dance based on films is not allowed.
3. Judgement will be based upon the qualities like Taal, technique,
rhythm, expression, costumes, makeup, footwork and on general
impression.
B. Folk/tribal dance
1. Dance can either be primitive or folk (Indian style), but not
classical.
2. The participating team will be responsible for their
sets/properties etc. Immediately after the completion of their
performance.
3. Judgement will be based upon basis of the rhythm, formation,
expression, costumes, makeup and coordination.
C. Choreography
1. It must reflect some theme and should be based on assorted
music/song pieces from non film/medleys or on the spot music.
D. Creative dance
1. The dance should be based upon some theme. Props are
allowed.
2. Recorded music is permitted; however songs/words not
allowed.

3. Literary
A. Quiz
Stage 1
1.1 There will be a preliminary round from which top 18
candidates will be selected for finals. The round type will
be decided taking in account the number of participants.
1.2 6 groups of 3 candidates in each will assigned for next
stage.
Stage 2
1. Final will be oral with audio visual questions.
2. The specific rules regarding evaluation procedure, time to
reply a particular question and types of round will be given
before the start of the competition.
B. Elocution
Stage 1
1.1 There will be a screening process from which 10 candidates
will be selected for final round.
1.2 Topic of elocution will be declared one day before the
event.
1.3 Time for screening event is 3+1 minutes.
Stage 2
1. Medium of expression will be Hindi, English and Sanskrit.
2. Topic of elocution will be declared one day before the event.
3. Paper reading/points in writing is not allowed.
C. Debate
stage 1
1.1 there will be a screening process from which 10 candidates
will be selected for final round.
1.2 topic of debate will be declared one day before the event.
1.3 there will be 3 debates in Hindi, Sanskrit and English.
1.4 papers reading/points in writing is not allowed.
1.5 timing for screening event is 3+1 minutes.
Stage 2
2.1 10 participants selected from screening will have to pair and
make 5 groups; one will speak for while the other will speak
against the motion.
2.2 topic of debate will be declared one day before the event.
2.3 there will be 3 debates in Hindi, Sanskrit and English.
2.4 papers reading/points in writing is not allowed.
D. Essay writing
1. Medium of essay will be Hindi English and Sanskrit
2. The topic of essay will be given one day before the event.
3. The judgment will be based upon the content, impact of words
used, clarity of presentation, interpretation of the data.
E. Turn coat
1. Participants have to speak for the motion and against the
motion either in English or Hindi.
2. The topic will be given 10 minutes before the start on the
spot.
F. Poetry recitation (Hindi English and Sanskrit)
Stage 1
1.1 There will be screening process from which 10
candidates/participants will be selected for next stage.
1.2 Medium of poetry recitation will be Hindi English and
Sanskrit.
1.3 The topics of poetry will be declared one day before the
event and participant shall recite poetry on anyone of the
four topics announced.
1.4 The poems should be the composition of the participants.
1.5 Judgement will be based upon the content, presentation and
expression.
1.6 Timing for this event will be 3+1 minutes.
Stage 2
2.1 Medium of poetry recitation will be Hindi English and
Sanskrit.
2.2the topics of poetry will be declared one day before the
event and participant shall recite poetry on anyone of the four
topics announced.
2.3the poems should be the composition of the participants.
2.4judgement will be based upon the content, presentation and
expression.
Theatre
A. Short play
1. Participating teams shall bring their own set/stage/property,
makeup material etc. Light and general property such as
ordinary furniture may be provided on prior information.
2. Maximum setting/upsetting time allowed is 6 minutes per
team.
3. The judgment will be based upon qualities of the play like
theme, work on acting, stage craft, design, general expression
etc.
Accompanist will either speak from the background or will play
upon musical instrument for background music. This shall not
appear on the stage.
B. Mime
1. Judgement will be based on qualities like idea, creativity of
presentation, use of makeup, music and general impression.
2. Dialogues/conversation is not allowed.
C. Mimicry
1. Participants may mimic sound of machines, speeches of well
known person etc.
2. Marking will be based upon skill imitating, variety of sound and
voices imitated and presented.
3. Medium of expression will be Hindi or English.
4. It should necessarily be cultured and pleasant piece of art.
D. Mono acting
1. Stage properties are allowed.
2. No separate timing for setting will be given.
E. Expressions
1. Theme will be given one day before the event.
2. Dialogues/conversations are allowed.
F. Skit
1. Use of makeup, drapery and background music is allowed.
2. The item will be judged on the qualities like theme work on
acting, stage craft, design and general impression.
3. Personal remarks, aspersions, character assassination etc. Are
not allowed. Vulgarity and bitter insinuations in presentation
are to be avoided. Only innocent satire or humor is expected.

5. Fine arts
Note. Use of mobile phones will be strictly prohibited in all fine arts
events except ‘on the spot photography’.

A. On the spot painting


1. Item will be conducted on the spot and participants will be
requested to do painting on the subject given by the convener of
the competition.
2. Size of the painting will be half imperial size drawing paper i.e.
22inches*15inches.
3. Painting can be done in oil, water, poster or pastel colors.
4. Candidates should bring their own material like brushes, paints etc.
Only paper/sheet will be provided.
B. collage
1. Item will be conducted on the spot on the given topic/subject, sheet
size 15*22 inches.
2. Participants must bring their own scissors, pasting and other
materials required for the contest.
3. Collage has to be prepared from old magazines; sheet/paper will be
provided.
C. Poster making
1. Item will be conducted on the spot and participants will be requested
to do poster making on the subject given by the convener of the
competition.
2. The participants must bring their own material. Only the drawing
sheet/paper 22*15 inches will be provided.
D. Sketching
1. The participants must bring their own materials.
2. Themes will be given on the spot.
3. The sheet/paper will be provided on the spot.
E. Cartooning
1. Item will be conducted on the spot on the given subject/area.
2. The participants must bring their own materials. Only the drawing
sheet/paper 22*15 inches will be provided.
F. Rangoli
1. The participants must bring their own materials.
2. Only one medium shall be used- poster colors or flower petals or
sawdust or pulses or suji or rice without pasting.
3. The participants shall have to prepare a Rangoli within the space
provided by the convener.
G. Mehndi
1. The participants must bring their own materials.
2. The participants can bring one assistant on whose palm she/he can
design.
H. On the spot photography
1. The participant has to bring his/her own digital camera along with
data transfer cable.
2. The digital camera should have a memory card which will be
formatted by the judges before the commencement of the contest.
3. The participant has to capture 5 photographs on the theme
announced on the spot by the judges.
4. ReMixing, matching or morphing of the photographs will not be
permitted.
5. Photo enhancing software such as Photoshop etc is not permitted.
6. The organizers will have all rights for the use of these pictures as
and when they deem fit.
7. Digital images will be evaluated on the basis of impact, composition,
technical quality, suitability for the specific theme.
