QUESTIONS
Writing Part 2
You study in London and you’re waiting for your pen-friend from Spain for whom you have
already booked a room in a hotel. You can not go to the airport so you send a map of the Tube
to find his accommodation easily.
Tell him how he can get from Heathrow to the city (the Tube, Piccadilly Line)
There are more stops where he can change to District Line (Hammersmith, Barons
Court, Earl’s Court)
Tell him to get off the Tube before The Thames (at Putney Bridge) from where he can
find his hotel. Give him the address.
You are free in the evening, discuss the meeting.
You want to go to England and you need a car there. You read an advertisement and ask
about the details (give them the date) :

UNDERGROUND
In London, everyone uses the “Tube”. It is a quick and easy way to travel around central
London, with a station never more than a few minutes away.
BUSES
London’s extensive network of buses can take you from door to door on all your sightseeing
and shopping trips, and from the upper deck you will have an unique view of the city on the
way.
Bus stop signs also carry the route numbers of buses which stop there. At a “Request” stop,
hail your bus in good time by raising your hand, if you want it stop for you.
For details of all London Transport services call in at any London Transport Travel
Information centre.
TICKETS
Underground tickets are available at all Underground Stations. Always buy a ticket before you
start your journey and keep it for inspection and collection at your destination.
Bus tickets are purchased as you board the bus or from the conductor on the bus. Keep your
ticket as it may be inspected at any time during your journey.
Ticket prices for buses and the Underground vary according to the distance you travel. Both
networks are divided into a central central zone with a number of outer zones. A standard
price is charged for travel within a zone, but as you cross into a second or third zone the price
increases. Look for the large maps displayed in stations to identify which zone you are in.
Children’s tickets are particularly good value. Children under 5 travel free, while those under
14 travel at reduced rates, often as little as 1/3 of the adult fare. 14 and 15 year olds can also
travel at child rates if they are carrying a child rate photocard (available from Post Offices and
Travel Information Centres on production of a passport-sized photograph and proof of age).
