A Good Movie

When I’m looking for a new movie to watch, there are a couple things I look for. Even if
some of the movies don’t have a quality I like it doesn’t necessarily make them a bad movie, it
just might not be for me. Everyone has something different that they look for in a movie, some
people enjoy black and white films, others enjoy colored. For me to enjoy a movie it has to make
sense, it has to be emotionally appealing, it has to have a good ending, and it should have
some humor.
A lot of shows and movies nowadays don’t make sense. If you’ve ever watched a film or
show based for younger audiences you’ll notice this immediately. It’s so simple yet so hard to
find. So many films rely on events that would never happen in real life, this makes it very hard to
follow and ,may be confusing to the viewer. When these films lack sense they make me take
more time thinking about the logic than actually enjoying it. I recently watched “Lone Survivor”
and it met this criteria very well, if there were any moments that weren’t possible to recreate in
real life then I missed it because I didn’t find any.
Emotional appeal is a technique used in a lot of films today. Shows or movies might try
to make you feel a certain way, whether this feeling is anger or sadness or something else.
Shows frequently kill off a memorable character every week, movies might have a turn
somewhere towards the end and kill off a character you were attached to. Lone Survivor did this
twice with two of the soldiers getting killed near the end. It was sad and gave me a sense of
anger because how avoidable their deaths were.
Good endings can easily turn me off from a good movie. If a movie has a horrid ending
that can change my feeling about the whole film. The ending is supposed to literally bring an
end to a story which some films fail to do. Lone Survivor had a good ending, the last soldier is
saved and brought back via helicopter. They also paid tribute to the actual soldiers that the
movie was based on which ties in with my love for emotional appeal.
Humor was something that this film lacked, and I wasn’t mad about it. The film had a
couple of funny jokes, usually from one of the soldiers’ mouths. I came into the film expecting a
serious event and that’s what I got. Some films aren’t going to be a lot of jokes because of what
it’s about, Lone Survivor is a serious recreation of an actual tragic event that happened. The film
wasn’t a laughing fest and I’m happy that they didn’t add forced comedy in it, the sudden jokes
were natural and felt realistic.
Lone Survivor was a great movie, it had given me a better sense of what actually
happened with the Lone Survivor soldiers. It made me sad and mad, but at the end of it I was
pleased with the film. It’s a great movie and you should check it out.
