Palm Sunday

Greetings of peace. We would respectfully ask you to pay special attention to the special liturgy times at the
Shrine during this sacred time of Holy Week. The Arch Street Band will provide all of the music for the
services below, except where noted.

Mass of the Lord’s Supper is on Holy Thursday at 5:15pm. This is the only Mass on this day. I will preside at
that Mass.

On Good Friday, Fr. Richard Flaherty will preside at the 3:15pm service in the second floor church and Fr.
Gene will preside at the 3:30pm service in the first floor church. The friars (Fr. Joe, Br. Tony, and Fr.
Damian) will do the music for the 3:30pm service. Dramatic Stations are in the second floor church at 11am,
Noon, 1pm and 5:15pm. Traditional Stations, without the Arch Street Band, are on the first floor church at
12:15pm and 2pm.

On Holy Saturday, we celebrate the Easter Vigil at 8pm. This is the only Mass on Saturday. Fr. Michael will
preside and Fr. Damian will sing the Exsultet.

On Easter Sunday, Masses in the second floor church will follow the usual Sunday schedule through the
morning. Fr. Ray will preside at 6am, Fr. Jeffery at 7:30am, Fr. Joe at 9am, Fr. Frank at 10:30am, and Fr.
Richard at Noon. The two early Masses (6am and 7:30am) will be without music. There is an additional
Mass at 1:30pm and I will preside at that Mass. Also on Easter, in the first floor church, Fr. Damian will
preside in English at the 9:30am Mass, Fr. Brian in English at the 10:45am Mass, and the Band will be at
both of those Masses. Fr. Gene is the presider for the first-floor Noon Mass in Spanish, with music, and Fr.
Alonso Morales, OFM, will preach. Fr. Alonso serves as the General Secretary for Missions and
Evangelization for the Order of Friars Minor in Rome and we are fortunate to have him as a guest at the
Shrine this month.

The Shrine closes at 2:30pm on Easter Sunday. I am grateful (and a little overwhelmed) by the amount of
teamwork that all of these events require. Thank you all for your generosity and your cooperation.

Fr. Thomas Conway, OFM

Br. Paul Bourque’s Suggestions for
Lenten Acts of Random Kindness
A Random Act of Kindness from Our Catholic Tradition
When saying the Stations of the Cross one meets a woman who performed a memorable Random
Act of Kindness. You know her name. You know what she did. Her name and her action are part
of our rich and wonderful Catholic tradition. Her name is Veronica. Veronica who wiped the face
of Jesus with her veil as He was carrying His cross to his place of crucifixion.

Suggestions for This week's Random Acts of Kindness

1. Try attending the Stations of the Cross here at St. Anthony Shrine this Good Friday. Or if that is not possible, try saying the
Stations of the Cross as a private devotion on Good Friday, April 19.

2. Motivate a friend. Everyone needs a little push now and then to do something. Perhaps your friend wants to learn to dance the
Argentine tango, cook a chocolate soufflé or speak Greek. Gently and kindly urge your friend to go for it! You might even want to
join in. It'll do you both some good.

3. Surprise someone with an unexpected gift this Easter; perhaps an Easter lily; or chocolates or some new clothes; or make a
donation in their name to their favorite charity; or a Mass card for their special intentions.

Stations of the Cross

During Lent, the Stations of the Cross will be led by Br. Daniel Murray, OFM
at 12:15pm on Tuesdays and Fridays
in the 1st floor church.
th
St. Francis Builds is planning a trip to Eastern North Carolina, June 23-30 to help with
rebuilding housing that was destroyed during Hurricanes Matthew and Florence. While we do
take some unskilled participants, for this trip, we are also especially in need of people with
specific carpentry/drywall/electrical and other specialty skills. Cost is $350 plus
transportation. Limited scholarships for a portion of the fee are available.
