NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2010

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have been back at school for a week, the clocks have changed and we have had
four hard frosts. I think winter is upon us!
We have a busy term ahead leading up to Christmas. Here are some of the events
that have taken place recently and some more dates for your diaries.

SECOND GREEN ECO FLAG AWARD

We were assessed for this last week and passed with flying colours. We were
described as being an extrememly Eco Friendly School and that our eco awareness
is embedded in the learning of the whole school. Our thanks to the Eco Committee
and the Orchard Group who impressed the assessor with their knowledge. All
classes also had an input to the assessment so well done to all.

THEATRE VISIT
We had a very successful visit from the Midlands Theatre Group who put on a
production called THE ARABIAN ADVENTURE. The children throughly enjoyed it.

PERTH 800 CURRICULUM AFTERNOON

Just to remind you that the children are preparing for parents to visit on the afternoon
of November 5th at 1.30pm. Please meet in the hall for the presentations by the
children and then you will be free to walk round the school, look at the learning and
ask questions of the children until 3pm.

CARE COMMISSION REPORT

As mentioned before, the Care Commission paid an un announced visit to the
Nursery at the end of August. We are very pleased with the resulting Report which is
graded all good and very good. Please feel free to read the report which is in the
Nursery.

PARENTS EVENINGS
This year, due to the extra INSET day, the Parents Evenings will be held on Monday
15th and Tuesday 16th of November. Please return your slip as soon as possible to
allow allocation of appointments. Those not returned will be given a set time.

INSET DAYS

A busy three days for us.
A RIGHT BLETHER 9th November
As part of our work as a Rights Respecting School, we have signed up to be a voting
centre for “A Right Blether”. This is where the Commissioner for Children will ask
pupils to vote on issues that are particular to them, such as:- My home, Where I
learn, My Community and Scotland.

REMEMBERANCE DAY
Poppies will be on sale in school from the 8th – 12th November for pupils to buy. A
donation of no less than 50p can be sent in, they will be sold daily by the P7s round
the classes. P7 will also do a short presentation for the school on Thursday 11th
November and we will hold a 1 minute silence to remember anyone who has given
their life in a conflict.

BLYTHSWOOD BOXES
Primary 2/3 coordinated this project to fill shoeboxes with small presents for children
in Eastern Europe. We filled 50 boxes which will soon be sent off. Many thanks to all
who donated.
