STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

After three and half years of undergraduate study in Civil Engineering, I feel completely satisfied with
my decision to choose engineering as my career option as it has revealed the most pragmatic and down-
to-earth approach to tackling human problems to me. My enthusiasm coupled with scope for
innovations and opportunities available in the field of Civil Engineering has motivated me to opt for
higher studies and contribute to the field through meaningful research. Now,I am a small town boy, used
to the simple things, like clear blue skies, gushing streams, and air redolent with freshly cut grass. During
my graduation I visit to Thar desert Rajasthan in 2014. Thar desert is a highly arid and dry area in which
water scarcity is very common , when I came to know that there are many river in state like Rajasthan
then also people are suffering from scarcity of water, it sank deep into my mind and I came to a
conclusion that there is not a scarcity of water there is scarcity of planning and conveyance . The water
engineering importance sank in my mind and with that my curiosity to understand more and more about
the newly witnessed field took roots. To understand the various aspects of water in Civil Engineering
aspect I made up my mind to pursue Masters in water engineering.
Keeping my juvenile interest for engineering at the back of my mind, I pursued my senior secondary
(matriculation) from Shree Hathishihji School with 78 percentage. In course of my completion of the
same, I got deeply attached to science and maths which kept me happy, excited and dedicated to other
subjects as well. Chemistry is one of the best subject I have gone through in my entire academic carrier
so far.The timely appreciation and acknowledgement of my progress, by my school teachers, in those
two subjects further fanned the flame of my academic fervour. Besides, I also learnt the glory of
discipline, perseverance, punctuality and patience. Caressed and thrilled by the academic excitements,
I marched ahead to conquer my higher secondary from Tapovan Science School taking science as the
main subject. I scored 53 percentage in my higher secondary. It was in keeping with my childhood calling
that I was driven to do my degree in Civil Engineering. I ultimately pursued the same from Venus
International College of Technology and completed it with 7.35 CGPA. In course of my pursuit of the
degree, I figured out that the subjects such as water engineering ,environment engineering, waste water
engineering, construction management, R.C.C. & steel structure and were of significant appeal to me
and pertinent to my pursuit of higher studies.
A consuming interest in learning the nitty-gritty of civil led me to participate in several technical fests
organised by Venus International College of Technology. My intellectually stimulating and academically
rewarding participations started with a Quiz on Literature wherein I secured 1st rank. This quiz was
organized as Youth festival called XITIJ ‘13’ which was held by Gujarat Technological University.
Following it was GTU-TECHFEST-2014 wherein I participated in JUNKYARD WARS which was held in L D
College of Engineering. These participations went a long way in broadening my understanding of the
scope of practicalities and implementation in the sphere of civil engineering. Enthused and benefitted
by the thought-provoking events I began taking the class-confined sessions with more eagerness and
interest.
In order to do better grasp the theoretical ideas pertaining to the subjects of engineering, I pursued an
eye-opening and insightful academic project during the tenure of my degree course. Owing to my
frequent visits to Rajkot, I started observing the miscellaneous construction work of the city very closely.
It was then that I realized that a major crossroads called the Rajkot Hospital Circle happens to the most
over-crowded and ill-managed spot of the city as it harboured the intersection of 5 different roads. This
entire thing prompted me to design a project called “A Case for Problem Solution for Hospital Chowk”.
The objective was to eliminate traffic congestion by working out on prototypes of pragmatic measures
such as flyover, underbridge etcetera. The project was well received and recognized by the college
fraternity. Soon after the completion of my degree I fortunately got a full time job of a site engineer in
Shramshraddha Construction Co. My principal job responsibilities included estimation, planning, site
supervision and work completion on schedule. This job experience was a much needed exposure to
testify my theoretical learnings.
At this pivotal juncture of my academic life, I deeply believe that my educational qualifications,
reverence for the enthusing in environment and a sincere interest in studying in Germany have
developed a keen desire in me to pursue my Master’s course in water engineering from your University.
It will certainly power my serenely evolving propensity for computation fineness and flower it to an
extent that can find tremendous relevance to the global infrastructure in general and me in particular.
The fact that I have taken and scored 5.5(B2 grade) bands in IELTS and 68 marks in language Goethe-
Zertifikat A1 am preparing for language for Goethe-Zertifikat A2, makes me more assured and
enthused to chase my lofty dream.
German universities, I learnt, have left no stones unturned in bringing laurels for themselves in terms of
pioneering the research in the field of architecture and offering pragmatic ideas in it. The fact that
Germany has been the frontrunner in and chief supplier of technologies, companies, know-hows, and
scientists in several technical fields, I am deeply inspired by the same. Besides, Germany has a number
of esteemed universities and alma maters that are recognized all around the world for their peerless
work in the domain of my interest. It is in the light of the aforesaid facts that I implore you to consider
my candidature for Masters in water engineering in your esteemed university.
