Key Responsibility Areas (KPA)

Special Projects (35%)

 Project Management of Special Events/Specialized Projects


 Management of Staff and designated key areas of responsibility
 Collaborate with academic leaders and other stake holders, ensure timeoous project
completion
 Liaise with outside concerns regarding the usage of computer facilities, either for
presentation to students or for student participation, i.e. FNB, RMB and KPMG and just
recently Bloomberg Institute EMEA (UK)
 Organization of events for our facility, arrangement of Sponsors to participate for our benefit
 Community Development for the enrichment of Local neighbours
 Procurement and request for quotes for large expenditure, meet with eternal suppliers for
project in hand (i.e. Move from J Block to M Block and visa versa)

Usage of Computer Faculties and organization thereof (20%)

 Maintain working schedules of the computer facilities in J and M Block (510 computers over
10 labs)
 Ensure that daily rosters available for the usage of the facilities
 Place Demonstrators in venues for assistance with 1st and 2nd year students
 Employ demonstrators at the start of the semester
 Capture Demonstrator details onto the iEnabler system for payment
 Ensure that Demonstrators are conducting the required duties
 Organize additional tasks with in the facilities which might involve other disciplines within
UKZN
 Schedule open time to other disciplines within the day.

Management of Computer Laboratories (20%)

 To Ensure that Maximum Computer LAN Facility/Resource Availability for Academic


Enterprise
 Regular Check ensuring Computer Resource Operability and Security (Manage Staff to
perform this task where Available)
 Log Warranty/ICS Networking Calls, logging of required maintenance
 Venue related issues for access into the various LAN's.
 Assessment of new equipment required and subsequent order process to obtain new
 Regular meeting with Academic Leaders with regards to software/programmes required
Student Administration/ Management (15%)

 Ensure that student flow and attendance all in accordance of equipment /venue offered. To
ensure that all security procedures are adhered to when using facilities
 Enforce manners in which our labs are utilized
 Mmaintain person per equipment and no overcrowding, also to ensure that all rules and
regulations are adhered to when using our facilities

Management of IS&T Staff Research Accounts (10%)

 Maintenance of 10 research accounts, for existing staff, Research Fellow and Income
Generation
 Assist academics with the maintenance of their accounts for the correct usage and
distribution of the monies accumulated in these funds.
 Obtain regular balances for the owners when requiring items to be purchase or for the
attendance of Conferences
 Organization of the travel arrangements and accommodation necessary
