1. What was the general topic of your Senior Project? 
For my Senior Project, I am a part of a program called LEAP, where I am supposed to mentor freshmen to help 
them in their academics and transition into high school. 
 
2. What was your Research Paper topic? 
My Research Paper topic was arguing for the implementation of mentoring programs in schools. 
 
3. What was your mentor­supervised activity? 
My mentor­supervised activity was learning how to become a mentor, mentoring and tutoring freshmen, and 
working with other mentors to figure out how to best support everyone. 
 
4. How did your research paper connect to your activity? 
My research paper was closely tied to my activity, as it was essentially advocating for it. 
 
5. Did you discover anything unexpected while conducting your research? If yes, explain what you 
discovered.  
While conducting my research, I learned about different kinds of mentoring programs and what makes them 
successful. Through this research, I discovered that there were flaws within the mentoring system that I had the 
ways I could improve it. 
 
6. Did your position, opinion or thesis change as a result of your research? If yes, explain how your 
position, opinion or thesis changed. 
My opinion of mentoring programs did not change as a result of my research. 
 
7. How much time did you spend researching and writing for your Research Paper? 
It is hard to estimate how much time I spent on my research paper since there were always breaks in between, 
but I would say around a week. 
 
8. How much time did you spend completing your mentor­supervised activity? 
I spent around twenty hours completing my mentor­supervised activity. 
 
9. Did you use the Senior Project Timeline to meet deadlines and to plan ahead? 
I did not use the Senior Project Timeline. 
 
10. If you could do your Senior Project again, what would you do differently? 
If I could do my Senior Project again, I would be more organized and punctual. It was difficult finding a 
consistent time in which I could meet with all of my mentees in an orderly fashion, so I think that more 
planning could’ve greatly improved the results of my Senior Project. 
 
11. How will you prepare yourself for the Oral Presentation? 
I will prepare myself for the Oral Presentation by reciting and rehearsing what I would want to say to myself or 
to friends. 
 
12. Did you encounter any problems or challenges? If yes, explain how you dealt with them. 
Part of my challenge came in the form of the freshmen themselves not wanting to participate. Though I couldn’t 
force them to continue in the program, I was able to continue my Senior Project by taking opportunities to help 
and tutor other freshmen. 
 
13. What are your thoughts, ideas or reflections on the whole experience and the final outcome of your 
Senior Project? 
With the end of the Senior Project, the experience was definitely new, and I am happy that I had the opportunity 
to participate in this program. As it is the first year of this program, I do think that there were flaws with LEAP 
and how the mentoring system was structured, but I think that they are issues that can be easily resolved if done 
again. Admittedly, I feel that my senior project is lacking quite a bit, and I know I could have done much more. 
However, senior year, in general, has felt like I was constantly digging myself into holes, and I can’t bring 
myself to say that Senior Project was any different. 
 
14. What did you learn about yourself through the Senior Project experience? 
I’ve learned that perhaps I’m not as organized as I thought I could be. As I mentioned in my previous answer, I 
felt that I was lacking in quite a few areas. But on a more positive note, I’ve become more open to introducing 
myself to new people and more open when interacting with people in general.
