the sentence. The students who can guess the sentence will write it on the board.
The volunteers and the students who got the correct sentence will be given a prize.
Task 1
Directions: Watch your classmate while enacting the secret sentence. Guess the
sentence and write it on the board.
SENTENCES:
o The dog is barking
o The ball is passed by the boy.
o Pamela kicked the ball
o The board is being cleaned.

B. Establishing purpose for the lesson
The students will group the sentences used in the charades into two.

o Pamela kicked the ball
o Hazel throw the phone.
GROUP B
o The ball is passed by the boy.
o The board is being cleaned.
Say: “Okay, class. One of these groups are what we call active while the other is passive.”

in group A and B.
GROUP A
o The dog is barking
Ask: “Based from the highlighted subject, verbs and object, what is the difference between
the two sentences? Which group do you think is the active voice? Passive voice? How
can you say so?”
Active Voice
ACTIVE VOICE is used to emphasize the doer of the action. It follows this
sentence structure:
S + V + O (OPTIONAL)
Example:
Passive Voice
PASSIVE VOICE is used to emphasize the action or the object of the action. It
follows this sentence structure:
O + BE VERB + MAIN VERB + S (OPTIONAL)

is active or passive.
o I ate hamburger.
o She is walking downstairs.
o Claire taught me how to dance.
o The movie is directed by my friend.
o The flower is given by my daughter
o The phones were confiscated by the teacher.
If the main verb of an active sentence is in present tense, the be verb of the
passive sentence should be in present tense. Thus, if the be verb of a passive
sentence is in present tense, the main verb of the active sentence should be in
present tense.
ACTIVE PASSIVE
Sandrex plays the ball. The ball is played by Sandrex.
Aliesa throws the pen. The pen is thrown by Aliesa.
We write the song. The song is written by them.
If the main verb of an active sentence is in past tense, the be verb of the passive
sentence should be in past tense. Thus, if the be verb of a passive sentence is in
past tense, the main verb of the active sentence should be in past tense.
ACTIVE PASSIVE
Sandrex played the ball. The ball was played by Sandrex.
Aliesa threw the pen. The pen was thrown by Aliesa.
We wrote the song. The song was written by them.
If the main verb of an active sentence is in progressive tense, the be verb of the
passive sentence should be in progressive tense. Thus, if the be verb of a
passive sentence is in progressive tense, the main verb of the active sentence
should be in progressive tense.
ACTIVE PASSIVE
Sandrex is playing the ball. The ball is being played by Sandrex.
Aliesa is throwing the pen. The pen is being thrown by Aliesa.
We is writing the song. The song is being written by them.
