Human Resource Management Group Project (20 Marks)

To be presented by groups of 4 to 5, on 15th April 2019.

Aims & Objectives: This project is designed to check your basic understanding of general principles of
HRM including recruitment, selection, training, assessment, and rewarding at different levels of
organizations. It is expected to develop an overall view of Human Resource Management processes
and acquire a synthesizing framework, which will help in systematic analysis of day-to-day Human
Resource Management situations.

Task: Please give a 10-15 minutes group Power-Point Presentation about your project followed up with
a Written Report. Please submit a proof/letter of company visit in your report along with a GROUP
PHOTO taken at the respective Company. Report without the group photo will not be entertained.

Project:

You are required to choose & visit any big organization with an active HRM Department. Analyze
the HRM functions on these lines; Recruitment, Selection, Training, Appraisal, and
Compensation. It must also include the general principles of:
 how a vacancy is created,
 is it always a vacant position that is filled, or are new openings created,
 who gets to decide if the job really exists,
 recruitment phases, referrals or where are the job ads posted,
 is there any mechanism of doing Job Analysis,
 how far does the HRM Department align its actions on organizations overall strategy,
 are there any retention issues,
 are resignations generally accepted or the management tries to retain employees,
 are exit interviews conducted,
 how is the turnover ratio,
 is compensation strategic,
 are there any issues in performance management,
 is there proper, transparent training system,
 are there specific testing & interviews structures in place,
 is there any visible career plans for employees in place,
 do they have succession planning or personnel planning in action,
 what is the status of the HRM Department itself within the organization, i.e. status of staff
managers, do they have any visible Talent Acquisition System in place,
 are there different strategies for hiring senior/mid/entry level positions or all are same,
 is HRM Department involved in day-to-day operations,
 Finally your own opinion/ analysis of the HRM Department of the company. Your
RECOMMENDATIONS for the company. What they can do to make HRM policies and HRM
department better.

How will this project help you?


o Work Experiences: Working students can reflect on their job & work experiences. They can think
critically & reflect their own HRM Department. This is something which has maximum chances of
stimulating you.
o Marketable: You can identify any project which you think can make your CV more marketable
o Promotion/Growth at jobs: Areas which are beneficial at present jobs or help you grow professionally.

Manifest that you have examined and practically applied all Human Resource Management Concepts
studied. You will be asked questions during your presentation in an attempt to ascertain if you have
understood all those concepts. Please note that you do not have to confine yourself to the above
guidelines, these are mere guidelines only for your facility.
