APU GCU FAIL Message on the CMC

1. General

A. This task covers fault code 243M1100.

B. The displaying of the APU GCU FAIL message on the CMC may cause the APU GEN OFF BUS
message to be displayed on the EICAS.

C. A failed condition will be enunciated as a failed APU GCU. In this case, the APU GCU FAIL output will
provide a low-impedance ground signal when activated.

D. This task can be done using GSE 499 (APU GCU Troubleshooting software), if its is available. GSE
499 is a software developed to facilitate troubleshooting by verifying whether the APU GCU is really
faulty or indicating some other problem related to the electric power generation/distribution system.

E. After completion of the troubleshooting, put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.

2. Fault Description

A. A failure of the APU generator control unit has been detected by the GCU internal logic.

3. Probable Causes

B. Failure of APU Starter/Generator (IPC 24-34-00) (AMM MPP 24-34-01/400).

C. Defective harness (WM 24-34-50).

D. Failure of generation system component(s) detected with GSE 499 (FIM TASK 24-34-00-810-808-A).

4. Initial Evaluation

A. Check that the following circuit breakers are in the closed position:

(1) APU GEN/ANTICYCLE, on the LH power control and distribution box (Location Tip: RB
CENTRAL DC BUS/APU GEN/ANTICYCLE).

(2) APU GCU, on the backup relay box (Location Tip: BACKUP HOT BUS/APU GCU).

(3) APU GEN/POR, on the LH power control and distribution box (Location Tip: APU GEN/POR).

(4) APU GEN/OUTVOLT, on the LH power control and distribution box (Location Tip: APU GEN/
OUTVOLT).

(5) APU GEN/VOLTAGE, on the LH power control and distribution box (Location Tip: APU GEN/
VOLTAGE).

B. If one of the messages below shows on the EICAS and/or CMC, do the related fault isolation task.
Then, continue this fault isolation.
± GEN 1 FAIL (FIM TASK 24-31-00-810-801-A).
± CMC FAIL (FIM TASK 45-45-00-810-801-A).
