KEY DEFINITIONS

ME
Who you are in this present moment. It’s important
that ‘Me’ is two things, ‘Who I Think I am’ and ‘Who I
Really Am’.

Who I Think I Am
This is your conscious understanding of who you are,
which is generally speaking, an extremely flawed per-
ception since we tend to think we are things that we
are not.

Who I REALLY Am
This is who you really are. You have to observe ‘who
you think you are’, and peel away the layers, to arrive
at ‘who I am’.

The Gap Between ‘Who I Think I Am’

and ‘Who I Really Am’
This gap is in essence, characterized authenticity. A better explana-
tion would be: If ‘Who I Really Am’ and ‘Who I think I am’ were the
same thing, then ‘Me’ would be 100% authentic - of course, that is
not the case (and will never be the case), and while you should strive
for that, you goal is effectively to use ‘authenticity’ to shorten the dis-
tance between the two. The more authentically that you understand
who ‘Who I Really Am is, the more possible it is to become your best
version.

How To Authentically
Understand ‘Me’
What has helped me the most has been to observe all
of the ways in which “Who I Think I Am” was shaped
by a desire for external validation - by understanding
“Who I Think I Am” you will simultaneously come to
understand “Who I Really Am.”

Who I Think I Want To Be

This is essentially the version of the person that you
want to be that ‘society’ and other external influences
has shaped. For example, when I was younger I want-
ed to be either a doctor, lawyer, or banker, but years
later, I realized that I didn’t actually want to be any of
those things... external factors shaped my perceptions
to make me believe that I wanted to become one of
those things.

The Me That I Want To Be

This is the person that you want to become in the
‘next’ moment. The ‘Me’ That I Want To Be is two
things, ‘Who I Think I Want To Be’ and ‘Who I Really
Want To Be’.

The Gap Between ‘Who I Think I Want

To Be’ and ‘Who I Really Want To Be’
Again, this gap is characterized by authenticity - that is to say that
that if those two things were the the same, then “The ‘Me’ That I Want
To Be” would be 100% authentic - of course, that is not the case (and
will never be the case), and while you should strive for that, your goal
is effectively to use ‘authenticity’ to shorten the distance between
the two. The more authentically that you understand ‘The Me That I
Really Want To Be’, the better that you will be able to ‘see’ it, and the
more ‘real’ it can become.

How To Authentically
Understand “The Me That I Want To Be”
What has helped me the most here has been to consider how all de-
cisions pertaining to the future (i.e. what sort of occupation I wanted,
what sort of skills I sought to develop) were shaped by external fac-
tors (i.e. my parents or societal norms).

Striving Towards Ideals

You should strive towards ideals - a 100% authentic ‘Me’ and ‘Me
That I Want To Be’ are of course impossible, because those are ideals.
Ideals are perfect, and we are imperfect creatures, and so long as you
accept and understand that, can you begin to strive towards ideals.
