Reflective Essay

Each semester is different. We always have the opportunity to learn something new. I

think this semester is where I have been able to expand my knowledge in the English language. I

had to look for information for my papers, journals and every task that was assigned to me in my

classes. In addition. I had to work in the course with my classmates and professor who have

pushed me to interact, contribute ideas and acquire new knowledge.

The results required for the successful completion of this course published in the syllabus

for the Spring 2019 class, exhibit an understanding of audience, purpose, genre, context, and

formatting that is responsive to the situation. I also had to learn to plan, write, review and review

multi-paragraph compositions that stress analytical, evaluative, exploratory, and persuasive-

argumentative writing within various rhetorical situations. Within the course I needed to apply

conventions of composition including organization, presentation, and stylistic choices. I also

needed to learn how to employ critical and evaluative reading skills in order to synthesize

evidence and / or sources in support of a claim, using an appropriate documentation system. The

final objective was to apply genre conventions including structure, paragraphing, tone,

mechanics, grammar, syntax, and style. With the help of our teacher, we have given the best

effort in classes to learn each of the topics and successfully complete the goals to meet during the

semester. Upon completing this course I think that, like my classmates, we have taken advantage

in the best way of each of the lessons taught in classes, both by doing personal work, such as

journals, readings, etc. As the work in groups and meetings with the teacher, in this way we have

managed to improve the level of writing and speak the English language to have the satisfaction

of having successfully completed our workday in English 121.

For someone whose English is not their main language, every word counts, every day that

we learn something new, are words that we can use in the future to communicate. This semester

and this particular class for me, has been where I have most developed my vocabulary in the

English language. In this class I have learned a lot, mainly in how to write and write quality

papers. I have also learned many subjects during working with the different journals acquiring

new words for my vocabulary and improving the pronunciations of the words I already knew.

There were many jobs that we did during the semester in this class that made me think

and make my imagination fly. One of the ones I liked the most, was that we had to say which

object represented us. I chose a pencil, because I think we are the owners of our destiny and we

decided that writing or deleting. Other interesting work of which I learned a lot, was the journal

5 where I spoke about "The Sea of Garbage". An article from the web portal El Universal, report

called "Sea of Garbage Between Honduras and Guatemala”, by Jose Melendez. In this journal I

was able to learn about the natural damage we are causing with pollution.

Apart from the knowledge about the topics that I get with each assignment, I also learned

to use appropriate punctuation marks, how to do sessions depending on where you get the

source, and to divide paragraphs for ideas and make the transfer adequate from one paragraph to

another. Besides that I have learned how an introduction should be made giving a view to the

reader about what will be discussed in the development of the project, the importance of the

thesis, and how to make the reader interested in the work from Let's start reading. I also learned

how to make a quality conclusion, where I should highlight what I was talking about in the thesis

to give more strength to what I said in the work.

When I decided to take this English class, my main goal was to get more knowledge of

the language, learning to pronounce more words than I already knew, and learn to write

correctly, which was what I had the most weakness in the language. At the end this course, I

leave with the satisfaction of having fulfilled my goals. I have developed my writing a lot and I

have improved my way of speaking. In the future I am sure that it will be easier for me to create

quality papers, as well as it will be easier for me to interact in English with others thanks to the

knowledge obtained during the class.

In each semester we have learned many new things, this being my second semester in the

United States and the second class of English at the college level, this semester has been the most

enriching for me. This has been the best for the large amount of knowledge learned, we have

been taught how to make quality papers, divide information by paragraphs making transfers from

one to another, the correct way to make headings for work and much more, thanks to the quality

of the class, the ability of the teacher and each activity that was done during the year. At the

conclusion of this work, I thank all those who have made contributions to help each of the

students participating in this class to successfully complete it having obtained much knowledge

that will help us in our future, remembering one of my favorite quotes from the American author

Amat Victoria Curam "Victory favors those who prepare".
