I’m been insight about the Native Hawaiian life through delivering significant and direct
service to both traditional and non-traditional communities as we address social
awareness. These experiences will be through a collaboration with University of Hawai'i.
In Hawaii, I settle into myself differently than here, or even compared to Salt Lake City,
a place that I consider to be my heart’s home. There’s something about the islands that
makes me take it down a notch, makes me not care about wearing the same outfit three
days in a row, or not think twice about that second helping of dessert, or not worry about
whether.
I say, Hawaii is full of ancient magic, they believe in spirits and they are very spirituals,
working with the natural things all the time.
But it’s magical in other ways, too. Its beauty, that I appreciate more and more each
time, its ability to make me slow down (even when I don’t want to) and its powerful
reminder of where I came from, tropical country too.
My trip was hardly deep or spiritual. We did a lot of cleaned beach time, we stayed
together all the time and see around. But then, when trying to explain the trip and
looking at all the photos and really thinking about what Hawaii means to me. There’s a
lot there. And the beauty of it is that it will all still be there.
