Sense

of Touch Lesson Plan


Lesson Title: Sense of Touch
Grade: Kindergarten
Instructor: Ms. Jasmine Vazquez

1. Objectives: SWBAT use and identify the five senses (K2.2).
i. SWBAT identify their use of touch
2. Materials and Preparations:
• Have projector on for video on sense of touch.
• Book “ I Can See Without My Eyes”
• Create an obstacle course with pillows and beanbags going across the
room.
• Sense of Touch Worksheet #1
• Sense of Touch Worksheet #2
3. Instructions:
a. Introduction:
i. Start the class with a recap of sense of sight. Have a discussion the
question “what would you do if you do not have eyes?” Have a PPT to
keep kids engaged in the lesson. Let students answer and lead the class
into the topic of touch.
b. Teacher Instruction:
i Read the book “I can see Without My Eyes”
ii. . After the discussion state that you are going to show a video and
have them sit down. Show the video once and after have a discussion
about what objects they have touched this morning.
iii. Show the video once more and after discuss what objects they can
touch in a yard. (Optional) You can have the class go outside in the
playground and show that they can touch the things around them but not
things like the sun, or sky.
iiii. (Optional) Create an obstacle course going from across the room
have chairs, pillows and beanbags around. Partner up students. Have one
student take off their shoe and close their eyes while the other student
gives them directions of where to go. After ask students what did they feel
when they closed their eyes.
c. Student Activity:
i. Have students go outside to explore the things they can touch or
create the indoor obstacle.
ii. Have the students discuss the book and state that the even without
eyes you can still see things.
iii. Have students complete worksheet number one, it can even be
done as a class if need to be.
d. Closure:
i. Evaluation: While students are working on worksheet number one
call up individual students and have them answer worksheet number two
in front of the teacher. That way the teacher can measure what they have
learned and grade them.
ii. Bring the class together and ask the class why is sight and touch are
important. Give an example with a cactus, how is important for me to
know what it looks like or how it feels.
iii. State that there are still three more senses to go over and that
tomorrow we will go over the next one.
