Where are you on the wellness continuum?

I. Describe where you are on the above continuum for each of the components below.

Physical wellness: Neutral point/Awareness-I like the way I look on the outside. Others may
think the opposite, that I may not be in the greatest shape, yet that’s okay. There have been times
where I think to myself that perhaps it’s time to go to the gym, it’s just a thought, yet I won’t
mind trying to out. I enjoy going on walks. I’m happy with the way I look. I’m not going to lie
when I was younger I did feel terrible, but as time went by, I’m grew happy with myself, my
body and the choices I made to live a healthy lifestyle that fits me, I’m aware.

Spiritual wellness: Growth/a little High Level. I’ve had a better understanding of who I am,
what is important to me in life. I’ve actually taken the time to embrace my ethics, values and
morals. I’ve learned and reflected from what I’ve seen or experienced. During my younger years
of life (entering teen years 12-13 yrs old), I had times of doubt, whether if I was important,
finding my purpose, if I was a mistake (simply, because I felt like the things I did, I did them
wrong. By the reactions of others; almost as if no one really cared about me, feeling of
loneliness). Even doubting God’s existence. It’s been an emotional roller coaster, all I can say is
that I’m thankful, happy and blessed, how far I’ve come and who I am and what may come next.
I’m no longer have a feeling of loneliness.

Family/Social wellness: Growth- I’m a slow to warm up person, so it may take some time until I
get comfortable; with someone I just meet. I’ve been a shy person since I was little. Not, much of
a talker. I get nervous still when I talk in front of people, quite ironic if I plan to be a teacher; one
day. I feel like I have gained confidence, in talking; over the years. It’s not a lot but it’s a start. I
like meeting new people, I’m terrible with continuing a conversation though. I love to spend time
with my family, I like to talk with my relatives (I’m actually able to talk to them) and share
stories/memories. I enjoy watching movies/eating together it’s a nice feeling. A bond that’s full
of warmth, I would say.

Emotional/ Mental wellness: Growth/High Level-sharing positivity to others and the world.
Having and starting each day with positive mindset. At least try too, I mean there are days that
don’t go as planned and that is normal. One faces obstacles, makes choices to live a life, where
they can grow/learn from and seek for opportunities. I feel that in life if you want to pursue
something; one should do it with love, faith and own will. Do it without expecting nothing in
return. As I said before there have been times that life may be acting the worst, that we are stuck
with one mood the whole day; that it affects those around us. And people that are around us are
able to notice it too, which can sometimes mess up with their day too. I feel like you have the
right to cry whenever you want and smile too! Be you and show the true you even if it consists of
being weird, at least you’re happy!

Financial wellness: Signs/Neutral Point- I feel like I need some improvement in these area.
when it comes to managing my money. I feel like when I try to save up, at times it’s difficult. It’s
like I save up; but then I feel like I don’t have enough money , to make payments, or buy a few
groceries for the week, also gas. I would like to improve my saving habits and spending too. I
don’t know how to explain it, I’m thankful for where I work, how much I get paid and for the
opportunities; I’ve been given. Perhaps it’s time to find a new job. Yet, is it the right time; to do
so? I would like to try other things.

Career/Occupational wellness: Neutral Point/Awareness- Where am I in life, I’m in college

studying to one day, hopefully, becoming a Teacher. Where I’ll be able to help others and guide
students into pursuing what they would like to do, be in life. I enjoy helping others, going on
adventures, learning new things, exploring. We all have busy lives, yet I feel like it’s best not to
always get lost in those lives ( I’m guilty) , It’s okay to breathe and try new things. Change can
have it’s ups and downs but it’s interesting to see what the outcome may be.

II. Discuss which area of wellness you need to change right now. Identify a particular

behavior that needs to be changed in order to improve the area you have discussed. Describe
what this behavior looks like in your life.
The wellness I feel I have to change is my financial wellness. Something that should
improve as I said above is, perhaps my managing money skills. For example, I get paid, I’m
saving up yet I need money throughout the week that I end up using the money I planned
or is supposed to be saved up, I’m trying my best.

III. Set a S.M.A.R.T. goal for behavior change (http://www.topachievement.com/smart.html

)
I will limit my spending habits and improve my saving up by saving a small amount
from my paycheck every week and then increasing it each month.
IV. Outline your behavior change process

For the goal that I have planned, there will be some changes, like limiting how much
I’m spending whether it’s eating out or buying things for myself; coming up with a budget
that is suitable. Only buy things that are necessary.

V. Discuss how you would monitor your progress towards this goal.

I will have a notebook and jot down the amount I plan to save. From there, the
amount I have left to spend, I will divide into categories. The categories will be things I
normally need money for through the week or month. Perhaps I could also write down or
reflect how each week turns out to be. I could also use my phone to keep track of things.
