Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Engagement: Students will be engaged in an authentic learning task as they take on the role of a researcher.

Representation: Students will have agency and choice in the end product of this activity. They will be allowed
to choose the information that goes into their product.

Action and Expression: Students will actively present their videos to the class. They can use pictures, videos,
and audio in their products to express whatever information they deem necessary.

Lesson idea implementation:

Students will begin this learning task by pairing up and doing research with a partner. This research can be
done on the Georgia Encyclopedia and other links provided in the URL section above. They will choose one
figure or event with a corresponding GA Encyclopedia entry (or other informational blurb) to create a video
project on.

After students have acquired all of the information necessary to answer the Who, What, and Why questions,
they will be tasked with creating the video. This can be done with Adobe Sparks (or whatever video editing
software is available to them).

MultiMedia Tools
Students need multimedia authoring tools because making a video is nearly impossible without it. No, the
project cannot be completed without the use of technology.
Inspiration (optional):

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

Students should not put any identifying information – or any personal information at all – in their video
products. If the videos do get published, then parents and administrators will be notified to grant permission.
All sources for research will be vetted by the teacher prior to being distributed to the children to browse.
Reflective Practice:

I think the idea of creating a video is appealing to students. Creative projects are engaging and personal. This activity has
been designed as a sort of mid to late stage activity within a unit on the founding of Georgia as a colony, and will be
succeeded by a unit on how and why Georgia has changed since its founding. I can’t think of any other tech tools that
could enhance the project.
