LESSON PLAN

• Name of lesson: DIFFERENT CULTURES

• Grade Level Appropriateness: 2nd grade

• Technology Content Standard Addressed: C. Develop cultural Understanding and global


awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures. 2.C.2.1 Use digital resources to learn
about places, people, celebrations, and maps.

• Other Content Standard Addressed: Social Studies SS 2.6 with prompting and support,


participate in a structured academic discussion using evidence and reasoning.

• Objective: Students will be able to compare and contrasts details from two different cultures.

• Materials needed to facilitate the lesson: chrome book (google,yahoo) notebooks, and


pencil.

• Suggested group size: in groups of 2

• Procedures: (This activity will be after a few days of talking about different cultures and you
have given a presentation on how you can tell different cultures apart)

1. First have students get out their notebooks and a pencil

2. After you are to tell students to get in groups of 2 (students will have 20seconds to find a
partner if not you can start assigning pairs together)

3. You are to send one person to get chrome book from the cart.

4. Now I want you to draw a view diagram on the white board labeling the two different
countries each group of students will be researching (labeling MEXICO AND CHINA)

5. You will now ask the students to open up their notebooks and copy your view diagram you
have drawn on the board.

6. Now you will explain to the students that you want them to research both Mexico and China.
How are both countries alike and how are they different. Explain how music, food, and clothing
styles are very important and something they should include. Remind them we are learning
about cultures so what makes each culture different and alike to one other.

7. Once class is all done you will fill in the viem diagram you drew on the whiteboard as a class
and have a group discussion on what research they were able to find.

• Assessment: Each student is to fill out their individual Venn diagram graphic organizer to
compare and contrast each country. Students are to work as a group and participate during
group discussion showing they have understood and gathered knowledge of each individual
country.
