Telephone Number 702 651 4004 Teacher Mrs. Trisha Age/Grade Level 3-Year-old,
Preschool
2. Beginning Ending Group Time I came at 11 am. At 10:55 it began and ended at 11:10
am.
3. Number of Adults Number of Children
2, 10
4. Nature of group time.
First the nature of the group time is the group of teacher(s) and students interacting
together to compete specific objectives. There was reading, I didn’t get the title of the
book. Mrs. Trisha showed the kids the book and asked questions about the book.
5. Appropriate
I think the activity is very appropriate. Reading to children is a foundation. It fosters
better experience and traditional know how of absorbing the content.
6. How long? Appropriate for the age?
15 minutes. Yes, reading is a great activity for the pre-k students. It allows their brains
to go and connect, not to mention get familiar with the unfamiliar.
7. Space It was appropriate.
It was wide open. Enough space for them to move around, interact with the teacher and
one another.
8. Bring the children together and begin group time?
When I walked in they were already in group time. She started singing the Willabee
Wallobee song with an elephant to get them together.
9. Percentage of the time, actively vs passively?
I would say around half the time. Maybe 60%. They could interact if they wanted too.
They also could listen to the story. Mrs. Trisha still asked them questions at times.
10.Children react?
They were involved. Most of them asking questions without being asked or having
reactions with the teacher without being asked.
11.Flexibility?
1) Allowing the kids to react when they wanted to or not. 2) Allowing students to answer
in the way they seemed fit. 3)Allowing students to walk away or choose to listen to the
end of the book before students were going outside.
12. Individualization special needs and the typically developing?
Yes, towards the end Mrs. Trisha asked Jackson about how he felt about the book.
13. Gender inappropriate behaviors?
Not that I was aware of. The reactions were pretty similar across the board. The guys
reacted a tad bit louder than girls at times. Carolina laughed at funny noises if I’m not
mistaken.
14. Inappropriate behaviors behavior management techniques One student put
something in his hand and Mrs. Trisha asked him to put it down. One time it occurred
and the other teacher asked him to put it down. Mrs. Trisha asked him to put it down
during story time. The other teacher asked him to put it down also.
15. Ended group time She asked the individual students what was their favorite part of
the story and released them to go outside.
16. Activity followed? Outside was the activity. I believe so. Because it allows the kids to
go be active after sitting down in a group.
Evaluation:
I think the group time was a large success. I liked the way Mrs. Trisha conducted it. The
children seemed to be thoroughly engaged and enjoyed reading the story and the
interactions with her. They got to have individual time plus the group time which was a
plus. The students got to isolate which parts they felt were best which is good. It makes
it feel like they were heard, giving them the power. It was diverse and differing genders
which is a plus in learning how to interact with both. The overall pace was ok/pretty fast
for it to be a story, but then again it wasn’t. It was a short story for children so it was ok.
With the balance of the interactions and individual times.

Date:4/5/19 School: ECE Lab Teacher: Charlie Age of Child: 3/4
Time:
11:55 Am-11:55Am
Setting:
It was at lunch time. The student was Jackson, he’s a boy.
Interaction:
Mrs. Charlie is asking Jackson about his lunch. Jackson are you eating Jello.
Jackson..No…Mrs Charlie asks Jackson Is it green beans? Jackson No! No! Giggling.
Mrs Charlie asking are you eating this and that. Jackson continues to laugh and say No!
No! Giggling. This goes on for another 30-40 seconds. Mrs Charlie talks to another
student and goes back to Jackson asking is it this or that. Jackson continues to laugh
and continue to say No! No! No!
PI Characteristics:
Be present. She was there with Jackson being present to the moment at hand not
focusing on anything else when engaged. Allowing herself to be open with him. Noticing
he likes the exchange. She matched herself to the child. Pg. 1 Powerful interactions
notes. She used her real voice, not her teacher voice. Pg 2. Connected with the child.
Stay in the moment and learn from the child. I think she stayed in the moment which
was nice and fresh for Jackson. Engaging in parallel movements/behaviors. Pg 2 She
did that. It was nice and Jackson seemed to be have a good time.
Improvement:
I actually don’t have a suggestion. I don’t critique what she did. She did a phenomenal
job and Jackson seemed to have a good time. Engaged, laughing. It was a great type
child interaction.
