No Movement
An A4LD that won't move after rebuild could be caused by no torque converter charge. The first thing to
check is line pressure. If the line pressure is high you might have the wrong modulator or the modulator valve
might be stuck. Figure 1 shows how to I.D. an A4LD modulator.

If line pressure is normal, check to see if the transmission is pumping oil out to the cooler. Remove the outgoing
cooler line (the bottom line) and see how much oil flows out with the engine running. You should get about one
quart in 15-20 seconds. No oil to the cooler would indicate no torque converter charge. To correct this, drill a
.040"-.060" hole in the valve body as shown in figure 2. Drilling this hole lets line pressure feed directly into the
torque converter charge circuit.
