Time Ultimatum Evaluation

Introduction
For the final major project, I had to create a game based on a bomb defusal scenario. The
player would need to go around looking for clues to get to the bomb and defuse it. To begin I
made some research to help me get ideas for my game. This research included similar
games, mind maps and mood boards. I then moved onto the sketches of the level design
and the characters in the game. After this I moved onto creating the game. I started by
making the levels, moving onto the character and then any necessary objects to help the
player get to the bomb. During creating it, I was still adding to my research just in case It
gave me any ideas I could later add to the game.

My role
For my project, I was completely independent and responsible for everything that happened
during the making of my project. Because I was alone, I need to plan out what I was going to
do on what day. However, the plan was taken very well, and I was losing track very quickly.
This was mainly due to the first level taking too long to do as I was making it a very high-
resolution image so there was a lot more detail need to be added. These changes to the
plan meant I had to rush things I had planned and so the end result wasn’t as good as I had
hoped I would have been.

What I have learned

Throughout this project I have learned a lot. The first that I noticed I had learned it that I was
a lot better at the level design as I thought. I really like the style that came out of it, however
it did take a long time to make and was what caused me to fall behind in the project. I also
learned to do a bit of coding and even made my own code to try and get my punching
mechanic to work. I was particularly proud of this as I have wanted to learn code as it plays a
big part in games development. I was not proud of my management and organisation as it
caused the game to be quite buggy as I wasn’t able to get the time to fix them. I hope to
improve this in the future as it would help me make a game that can be the best it can be.

Where do I go next?
As I said above, I would like to improve my time management and organisation. I would also
like to further my skill using photoshop as I have used it for a few years and would still like to
learn all there is about it as I love using it and would love using it more if had more functions,
I can use with it. I would like to work on my research as I feel I did not do enough. Having
more research will help me gather more idea that I can add onto the games I make. Coding
is another skill is I would like to improve upon. Learning code will help me to add more
advanced features into my games and bring a more enjoyable experience to the player.
The finished project

I think that my game itself has reached the sufficient requirements in order to pass as it
includes a few advanced mechanics within it such as punching, click and search and a
conveyer belt function. I have also added ambient details such as a ball and a dog. I think
the sound turne3d out well as well as I was able to add a song to the menu and add
background noise t give an atmosphere to the game. Also, the timer to the bomb has
created suspense for the people who have played the game. However, the part I fall short on
is the research where I don’t think I added enough but I think I have added enough just to
pass but I still could have added a lot more.
As I went through my project, I let people test the game and get some ideas of what could be
added or changed. I got a lot of request from tutors of things I can add. Frazer suggested
adding a dog as an interactive object in the background so that the player has something to
do rather than walking in an empty room. Stuart suggest fixing the walking mechanic which
was very buggy.
Next time, I need to improve of all the problems I have addressed as all will improve the
quality of the game and bring a more entertaining and fun experience for the player. It will
also help achieve the highest grade I can.
