III.B.1.A. Local Case Study no. 1: Aruga by Rockwell Hotel, Makati

Location: Waterfront Drive, Rockwell Center, Makati, 1200, Philippines

Architectural Style: Asian Contemporary Lodging type: Serviced Apartments

Summary. Another exceptional creation by the

Rockwell Hotels and Leisure Management
Corporation under the same developer is the
luxurious serviced apartments of Aruga by
Rockwell.

Rockwell’s philosophy in building perfect spaces

for its residents is to understand the needs of an
individual. The company does not limit the needs
of their residents within the structure of their home
or condominium units, they recognize one’s needs
even outside those boundaries. That is why
Rockwell as a developer would never compromise
the exclusivity and luxury that they have built in the
neighborhood for the holistic pleasure it provides
to its dwellers. (Rockwell Land Corporation, 2015) Figure 3B.1. A.1 Perspective View of Aruga,

ANALYSIS AND IMPLICATION TO THE CURRENT STUDY

(FOR LOCAL STUDIES 1 &2)

Rockwell has remained true to its promise of providing holistic hotel and residential service.
The two case studies are the first two Aruga hotels of Rockwell Land, proponent has
included these as case studies to compare the features that make them an Aruga Brand.
The proponent has analyzed that even though they are the same brand they still have
43
Aruga Interactive: Proposed Luxury Hotel and Resort in Iloilo

Potential in Architecture to Surprise and Reinvent Leisure Amenities

distinction from each other, like, the Aruga in Makati’s architectural style is Asian-
contemporary and the other is Tropical Contemporary, as soon as you enter the two, the
ambiance changes. You are welcomed by low establishments and greens surrounding the
area. With such implications, the proponent would probably stick to a tropical-contemporary
design style fused with digital media elements for the proposed Aruga Interactive.

For the comparison of the site layout of the two Aruga Hotels, both developments were
planned to promote exclusivity and privacy by enclosing the resort/ recreational amenities
with its structures.

Primarily, the Aruga Brand’s distinction of a holistic approach for accommodation could be
identified by its serviced apartments’ concept of hotel. Aruga is Rockwell Land’s venture
into serviced apartments, which can be seen in both The Grove and Rockwell Makati.
Since it is resort-themed, it is perfect for travelers, businessmen and families. It has the
luxury of a hotel, but with the comforts of home.

Figure 3B.1.4.

Figure 3B.1.3.

Figure 3B.1.6.

Figure 3B.1.5.

Its Guestrooms are very spacious and because it’s a serviced apartment, you can always
call the front desk or maintenance for any concerns.

In Aruga, guestrooms are provided with dining areas which the whole family can enjoy and
also offer full-functioning kitchens. This is what sets them apart from hotels. They have a

fridge, a stove with an oven, a microwave, an oven toaster, a rice cooker, a coffee maker,
plates with utensils, pots and pans, and other kitchen accessories that you might need.
They also have a laundry area, which is a plus if you are staying longer. And so, the
planning and design within its guestrooms shall be retained to be able to capture the
distinction of the Aruga hotel brand as serviced apartments.
