SSS- The Philippine Social Security System is a state-run, social insurance program in the
Philippines to workers in the private, professional, and informal sectors. SSS is established by
virtue of Republic Act No.1161, better known as Social Security Act of 1954.

GSIS- The Government Service Insurance System is a government-owned and controlled


corporation of the Philippines. Created by Commonwealth Act No. 186 and Republic Act No.
8291, GSIS is a social insurance institution that provides a defined benefit scheme under the law.

PAG-IBIG- is an acronym which stands for Pagtutulungan sa Kinabukasan: Ikaw, Bangko,


Industria at Gobyerno. In effect, Pag-IBIG harnesses these four sectors of our society to provide
its members with adequate housing through as effective savings scheme.

PHIL HEALTH- The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) was created in
1995 to implement universal health coverage in the Philippines. It is a tax-exempt, government-
owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) of the Philippines, and is attached to the Department
of Health.

Discretionary benefits/ Voluntart Benefits are employment benefits that are not mandated by
law. They can include a range of employee benefits, such as health insurance, sick leave,
maternity leave, vacation leave, pension plans, life insurance, and prescription drug insurance.

Example: Vacation Leave, Life Insurance, Sick Leave Health Insurance, Maternity Leave,
Pension Plans, and Prescription drug insurance

Statutory/ mandatory employee benefitsrefers to the programs all employers are legally
required to provide their employees. Mandatory benefits include unemployment insurance,
workers' compensation, and disability insurance.

Examples: Family and medical leave, Civic duties, compensation, unemployment insurance,
worker’s compensation, disability insurance etc.
