The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) is at the forefront of Detroit’s transformation through
public space development and programming that advance the city’s residential and business
communities. With almost 100 years of placemaking experience, DDP knows what it takes to
create and maintain award-winning public space and continues to look for ways to innovate
programming every year.
The DDP has an action-packed lineup this Summer in Downtown Detroit Parks. There are
dozens of free activities and events for all ages, interests and abilities -- from free summer
concerts at Beacon Park with big name national acts like Moon Taxi and Tamia to weekly
movies in the park featuring award-winning films like A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody.
That’s just the beginning.
The DDP manages, operates and programs Downtown Detroit parks and public spaces, in
cooperation with the City of Detroit, Downtown Detroit Business Improvement Zone and the
Detroit Parks and Recreation Department.
BEACON PARK
Beacon Park embodies light, energy and motion with year-round programming, interactive light
installations and its flagship restaurant LUMEN - with a rooftop garden and panoramic views of
the park and Detroit skyline. The city’s newest public park opened in July 2017 thanks to the
support and partnership of the DTE Beacon Park Foundation. Since the four-day grand opening
Beacon Park has become a distinctive gathering place with unforgettable experiences for
visitors of all ages and eye-catching, Instagram-worthy moments to share with friends and
family. The park’s circular lawn is the largest of any Downtown Detroit park and gives visitors
room to run, play, relax and recharge.
CAPITOL PARK
Change is coming to Capitol Park! A permanent renovation of the park, situated in one of
Detroit’s oldest neighborhoods, is scheduled for 2019. Until then, the Downtown Detroit
Partnership and Lear Corporation are thrilled to offer a sneak peek of the redesign this summer
will feature more green elements in a central lawn, tree canopy and hedge garden.
Working closely with district property owners, residents and stakeholders, the DDP alongside
design firm Public Work has developed a plan that will support growing residences and retail
while paying homage to the park’s storied history. Capitol Park is the site of Michigan’s first
capitol building and burial place of the state’s first governor Stevens T. Mason. It was also home
to Finny Barn, one of the final stops along the Underground Railroad.
JULY - Tamia
Don’t miss this concert to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of Beacon Park and the NAACP 110th
National Convention in Detroit! Tamia will headline this FREE concert and all are welcome to
enjoy the live music, light and video mapping show, Night Market vendors, food trucks, and
bars.
Tamia is a six-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter, from Windsor, Canada. With her
incredible vocal talent, Tamia has been a leading singer in the R&B for the past two decades,
with her latest album, Passion Like Fire, released just last year in 2018.
Grand Circus Dog Park hosts monthly themed parties and activities for the coolest Detroit dogs
and their owners. The park's spacious grounds offer room for 50-75 dogs per event.
