STORYBOOK LESSON PLAN

STORYBOOK : Gingerbread Man Storybook

PROFICIENCY LEVEL : Beginner Level

STUDENTS’ AGE :6

GRADE : Kindergarten

CLASS SIZE : 16

SCHOOL : Private school

OBJECTIVES

The students will be able to:

 identify the adjectives of some appearance and personality in all of the activities.
 infer basic personality and appearance by looking at the photos within 4 minutes.
 integrate their knowledge to describing a person in sentences or paragraph within 15
minutes.
 describe characters/people by making simple inquires in 20 minutes.

ACTIVITY ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

 The teacher comes to the classroom and says “Hello! How are you
today?” After the greeting, teacher asks “Do you know what we're
doing today?” by showing the book.
 The kids guess, and the teacher asks, "What do you see?" by showing

the book’s cover picture again.
Storybook  After the students tell their answers and ideas about the book, the
teacher starts to read the story book in a way that the students can see
(Appendice-1) the pictures.
 The teacher reads the book once more time to them if they don’t

Video
 After the teacher read the book, she/he asks, "Do you like it?"
(Appendice-2)  The teacher opens the video of the book on YouTube and the
students watch the video so that the story can be alive in the mind of
the students.

 Students are now familiar with the story and the teacher asks the

students to create a poster by combining the story pictures.
Activity
 The teacher distributes colourless pictures of the story to the students
(Appendice-3) and asks the students to put them in order according to plot.
 Students glue the sequential pictures onto the posters, and the teacher
(Appendice-4) asks them to paint the pictures in colour.
(Appendice-5)  Then, the teacher gets all posters and pastes pictures to clipboard.

Activity Purpose: The aim of this activity is to help students understand the
story better and line up the plot correctly. After lining up the plot, they will
paint the story’s pictures by touching and feeling. In the end, the teacher will
hang the posters on the wall and all the students will see the posters they
make.
 The teacher says "Let me draw Gingerbread Man on the board" to get
to know gingerbread man better.
 The teacher draws his body on the board and asks “What should I
draw now?
 Students say what the teacher should draw, respectively, and the
teacher completes the gingerbread man according to the students'
answers.
 For example, students say “Two arms, two legs, a head, two eyes, a
nose and a mouth.” And the teacher draws them.
Main Activity  Then the teacher says that “Now, like the old woman in the book,
let's make a gingerbread man together.”
(35 Minutes)  The teacher brings the real dough she/he previously prepared and
distributes them equally to the students. Apart from that, the teacher
(Appendice-6)
also gives each student gloves and bones.
(Appendice-7)  The teacher says that “I just drew the gingerbread man. You know
what to do."
 The teacher asks each student to make one body and she/he gives
instruction after they did his body. For example, the teacher says “Do
two arms” or “Do two eyes” etc.
 All students do it according to their teacher’s instruction.
 After they complete the gingerbread man, the teacher takes all
cookies and gives to the oven for cooking.

Activity Purpose: The purpose of this activity is to teach the parts of the
body with The Gingerbread Man character. The teacher first draws parts of
the body. Then, as in the book, students also make a gingerbread man with
real dough. It is a very useful activity for students because students like to
learn and learn better by touching and creating new things.

 While waiting for the cookies to be cooked, the teacher asks, "Do
you remember the animals in the book?"
 Then, students say what they remember from the book.
Follow-up
 The teacher shows toys of the animals in the book. And he/she says,

“This is cow, or this is horse.” Also, the teacher wants them to repeat
(20 Minutes) after her.
 Then, the teacher says, “Let’s play a game!” and “Do you want to
play a game?”
 The teacher has prepared "Guess what" game for the students. And
she/he tells the students what to do.
 The teacher says that “Now a friend is going to go behind this
cardboard and put his or her hands in these holes.
 And there are some animals in the other side. Then, this friend tries
to guess which animal is.

 If the students don’t know that animal, other students try to explain
by giving examples from the book. For example, they might say “It
(Appendice-9) runs or the first animal etc.”
 After that, the cookies are ready, and the students will eat them.

 The teacher will give the students only head pictures of the four
animals in the book. Students will guess which animal is in the
Homework picture with their parents help. And draw the animal's face and the
rest of its body. After drawing the animal, they will paint the picture
of the animal with colored colouring pencils with their family.

Homework Purpose: In this homework, children repeat the animals and


body parts that they learned from the storybook. Also, they have a good time
with their families by doing drawing and painting.
