Greetings of peace.

On Memorial Day, we remember and honor all of those who have sacrificed their lives in service to their
country.

In the Gospel today, Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will teach us everything. Are we ready to hear the
Holy Spirit? Are we open to change and conversion of heart? Are we ready to let go of old habits, or
prejudices, or stubbornness? Throughout the history of Catholicism, holy people have been willing to
completely change their lives, often times leaving comfortable, familiar circumstances and traveling to new
places where they were most needed by the Church at the time. At particularly dramatic moments in history,
people have sacrificed their own lives for the advancement of the Church. With this perspective, the “ask” of
Jesus today, that we listen attentively to the Holy Spirit, seems rather simple. Let us help one another to
discern the teachings of the Holy Spirit.
