Filiași - an interesting destination

Titiriga Adrian

Filiasi is a beautiful and peaceful town. Its people are very hospitable. It’s
surrounded by hills and forests. The Jiu river flows nearby.
It’s also got two parks. The central one has got a playground for children,
with slides and swings. In the Lake Park there are three lakes and long alleys
shaded by trees. It’s a good place for walking and jogging.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Filiasi. The best hotel is the
Rocoop Hostel, a two-star hotel. It’s in the main street. There is another hostel at
the southern entrance into town, the Alin Hostel, but it’s mainly used by truckers.
The Negraia Restaurant is set in an idyllic location, in the middle of a forest,
on the hill east of Filiasi. Tourists can serve traditional Romanian dishes at the
restaurant, admire the scenery and breathe fresh air, all at the same time. It’s a
great place to have a meal, especially in the summertime.

The most beautiful building in Filiasi is

the Filisanu Mausoleum. It was designed by
Teophil von Hansen, a famous architect.
It was built at the expense of Dimitrie
Filisanu in eighteen sixty-five and it’s his and
his heirs’ final resting place. It’s also known as
“the Sistene Chapel of Oltenia”.
Another historical building is the St.
Nicholas Church, built in the
nineteenth century on the site of a
much older church.

The town of Filiasi consists of the town proper and several villages in its
vicinity. The farmers in those villages grow vegetables and breed domestic
animals. In their homes tourists can find accommodation and homemade food.

Another tourist attraction in

the area is the ruin of a Roman
castle in the village of Răcarii de
Jos, six kilometers away from
Filiasi.

As you can see Filiasi can be an interesting destination for tourists. Its
location on the E70 road makes it easy to reach and the hills, forests and villages in
the area offer excellent opportunities for agro-tourism.
