Alice has made pleasing progress in English this semester. She correctly recognises learned single sounds
and combinations. She uses her phonics knowledge to blend sounds and read more complex decodable
words, for example 'sh in fish'. Alice is developing confidence when reading decodable texts, segmenting
individual sounds in words and cross-checking supporting images to assist her in decoding more difficult
words. It is particularly pleasing to see Alice re-reading with fluency for meaning and recalling some simple
high-frequency words. Alice uses written texts to reflect her personal experiences by using her letter and
sound knowledge to phonetically spell unfamiliar words and some simple high-frequency words. She
correctly uses full stops to indicate the end of a phrase. Alice shares her thoughts and feelings about the
events and characters in texts. Next year I would like to see Alice continue to develop fluency when she is
reading. Well done, Alice!

Effort: Consistently demonstrates appropriate effort in this learning area
Alice has maintained steady progress in Mathematics this semester. She has retained her proficiency to
count beyond 100 and backwards from 20. She confidently writes numbers up to 100; however, I would like
to see her continue to use visual cues to support her in using the correct number formation. Alice uses her
number sense to represent simple addition, subtraction and sharing problems up to 20 using manipulatives.
With prompting, she is able to represent simple addition and subtraction problems in a number sentence
using the correct operation. She can copy and create simple patterns, and she sorts and classifies objects
according to common characteristics in more than one way. In Measurement, she uses direct and indirect
comparisons to decide which object is longer and heavier. She is able to interpret the everyday language of
location and direction, such as 'between' and 'next to'. Next year I would like to see Alice be able to continue
simple patterns. Great work, Alice.
