Magnetism

Lodestone: magnetic oxide of iron -> compass

Mixing iron, nikel and cobalt with other metals
Magnetic forces originate from north and south poles
North pole attracts south pole
Two like poles repel each other
Permanent magnet: bar magnet
Magnetization: molecular magnets line up with their north
poles pointing in the same direction
Unmagnetized state: molecular magnets are mixed up
Electromagnet: wrapping a coil of wire around a solid iron
core, electric current flow through the coil -> solenoid ->
temporary magnet
Solenoid: provide power for electric motors, produce
sound in loudspeakers and telephones, storing signals in
tape recorders and computer disk drives

Functions: basic principles of mechanical science; RDD
sequence (Research, Design, Development); the question
of production – production of goods or production of
power; management functions (include consultancy)
