SIno Process RESPONSIBILITY

1 Preparedness & Book Selection - Teacher selects a set of Teacher in Charge


library books for his/her class one day in advance in the school .
( It is preferred that she includes titles of which there are 2
copies) The number of books to be sufficient for all the children

2 Generates students Interest - The teacher carries the selected


set of library books to the class in the Library period 1.
a) She picks out a book and shows children the cover and the
pictures. Teacher talks about the book to raise children’s
interest. Teacher in Charge

b) Teacher reads one page of the story book. Then asks


children to predict what will happen in the story.

3 Book selection by children and issue of Library books

c) Teacher picks up at least 2 more titles and repeats the


process of introducing the books. The Teacher finally asks all
the children to select a book out of the given pile ensuring all Teacher in Charge
students have a book each.
d) Students do silent reading.

e) Teacher goes around the class noting names in the ‘issue- Teacher in Charge
return register ( Pls refer to annexure A)
f) Teacher gives clear instructions to children on taking their
books home and their upkeep.
g) The books to be brought back in the next library period

Option: Teacher can integrate creative writing in the


next library period by following the proposed process

Annexure 1.1. – Reading Passport


4 Creating Personal reading passport Teacher and Children
h)Children make reading passport on the given format in Library

5 Focused reading and writing Teacher and Children


I)Teacher pairs children, preferably, with children who have read
the same title and asks them to discuss their book in detail with
their friend and fill their reading passports

J) Teacher goes around the class prompts children and helps


them to read their stories and fill the passport

6 Focused reading and writing at home

K) Teacher asks children to complete their passport at home.

7 Paired Reading & Sharing

L) Children with the same book exchange their reading passports
and read each other’s passports in Library Period III.

M) Teacher asks volunteers to come up and show their reading

N) Teacher asks children to return their books and issue a new


one, if they have read their book.

O) Teacher updates her issue return register as stated in point ‘g’
