Abstract

Tourism is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing industries. Tourism is the field of
hospitality and when it grows and develops it has a long term benefit to the place where it
takes place.

For Developing countries (e.g. India) it is the prime income generator.

India being one of the oldest countries in the world has its roots in villages. The rural parts
of India are blessed with unmatched rural beauty, which brings us close to nature and
lifestyle of the rural area.

Tourism in India has great potential especially in India where most of the population resides
in the rural areas.

The tourism sector provides employment to about 50 million people. Even a modest 10
percent growth in tourism sector would generate 5 million jobs every year and major
beneficiary to the rural artisans.

Rural tourism is basically a tourism in which people are travelling to see and experience the
life and hospitality in the rural areas.

Nowadays locals in rural areas are coming forward in the field of tourism to make their
profit and indirectly helping the place from where they belong as it is one of their primary
or secondary earning.
Government of India and state government and other private organization are coming
forward in rural tourism because it also help government to keep environment safe and it is
also one of the way that India economic condition will improved.

The study based on the secondary data published in various sources reveals that
endorsement of rural tourism has socio-economic benefits to the people living in rural
areas.

INTRODUCTION

Rural tourism is experience oriented, it is pre-dominantly in natural environment, and it


allows you to connect with local people and events and is based on preservation of nature,
culture, tradition and heritage.

Rural tourism is developed in various wings such as Cultural tourism, adventure tourism,
Food tourism, Ethno tourism, Community tourism, Agriculture tourism and Nature tourism.

The name Haryana comes from the blend of two Sanskrit word ‘hari’ and ‘ayana’ in which
‘hari’ means god and ‘ayana’ means home basically it is said that it is a land where guests
are equal to god.
In today’s time Haryana is known as one of the wealthiest and most economically
developed regions in South Asia and it represent the face of modern India.
Haryana is showcasing magnificent archaeology, art and culture and diverse landscape.

The state has one of the most unique histories. It witnessed the famous battle of panipat
and also it also shows that the epic battle of Mahabharata was fought here at kurukshetra.
Today Haryana known for its achievement in agriculture, industrialization, and art and
culture. It has a rich history, known for its monument, flora and fauna, human resources
and Tourism. Haryana is a place and journey here is worth experiencing.

Haryana has great possibilities of growth in tourism sector. The state aims at the direct and
indirect or multiplier effects of tourism in employment generation reduce poverty and
women empowerment in environmentally sustainable manner.
The Haryana government is now focusing on positioning itself as one of the most preferred
destination by increasing the productivity of Haryana’s natural, human and cultural
resources. Their effort to promote the farm/Rural tourism helps them to provide
employment opportunities while protecting environment and heritage.

Rural tourism is growing very fast in Haryana as it is the land where most of the areas are
rural area considering this government of India and state government together bought up
and implement the farm tourism scheme in which government is teaming up with farmers
will play host to tourist and tourist will get first-hand experience farming activities.
And the state also initiates the tourist packages for the registered farm.
This will bring awareness to the villagers and tourist will also get to know about the folk art
and the tradition of the state. This will provide the farmer an additional income.

Within few years Haryana tourism department with the state government collaborated
with farm owners and developed the 20 tourist spots that offer the eco-tourism that gives
the flavour of village with the cultural foods, rural adventures and traditional lifestyle.

The farm tourist destinations are attracting large number of urban people mainly from NCR
region who seeks to experience the food and ambience.

Farms which are registered with department of tourism are mainly located in National
Capital Region from Haryana district.

Adventures that are available at these farms are horse ride, camel ride, cycling, indoor
games and outdoor games and also driving of tractor or tractor ride is also the part of these
farms.

Visiting these places can give you the glimpse of village culture and walk and also the
agriculture activities.

Rural tourism is a concept which opens up the new economic opportunities for the local
people and conserves the natural habitat, promoting cultural, heritage and tradition and
offers the authentic rural life experience for the tourist.

Rural tourism is bringing people out of urban areas to the countryside, and from this local
are getting direct economic benefit by getting involves in the tourism activities.

The government of Haryana and the tourism department create the concept of farm
holidays which attracts tourist and also the NRI’s who wants their children to see their roots
and Haryana also becomes the first state to start the concept of farm tourism.

RURAL ATTRACTION IN HARYANA

BANNI KHERA FARM

Location – Samar Gopalpur village in Rohtak, Haryana

Banni khera farm is a place to stay where you can experience the rural life along with many
other activities such as boating, fishing, folk shows etc.
It is the community based project which is started in collaboration with Haryana tourism. As
the farm is in rural area so one can learn about farming activities.

SURJIVAN FARM

Location – GURUGRAM
Surjivan resort and farm is a tourist picnic spot which has lush green environment and they

provide the rural lifestyle stay. There you can enjoy the Indian games like kanche and gilli-
danda and they will give you the visit to the farm. Its location is also good you can easily go to
nearby museum etc. and the mud house here gives you the tastes of villages and the life.

BOTANIX NATURE FARM& RESORT

It is the very popular among the tourist as it is the picnic spot on the foothills of Aravali.
Botanix is situated at the edge of a lake (Damdama Lake) and it is very unique also. It is in the
very close proximity of Delhi (National capital) which offers the day picnic for families and
children to enjoy. The land area is spread in 40 acres which offers the lush green park and
many theme gardens.
The botanix resort has traditional restraint which offers the authentic Indian cuisines which are
made from fresh organic gardens and also the tourist can feel the traditional village experience
in botanix farm and resort.
The place is also used for daily excursion, organizing conferences, corporate night stay and it
does also provide the recreational activities and camping, also it has much indoor and outdoor
game which gives you the lifetime holiday experience.

There are many fun activities such as camel ride, potter wheels, bullock cart that gives you the
flavour of village and just because of the places like this children get to know more about
villages and their lifestyle.

PEEPAL KOTHI FARM

The peepal kothi is unique in its way because it is in three acre complex or kothi which oly
consist of three bedrooms that reminds of architecture of Punjab in 1930’s. It is situated in the
short distance from Gurgaon and Delhi.

RAKHI GARHI

Rakhi garhi is a village in Hisar district of Haryana state. It is famous because is known as one of
the five known biggest township of Harrapan civilization. This village being so old gives you the
sense of harappan civilization which is one of the most oldest civilization of Indian sub-
continent .Government of Haryana is also taking steps to create it as a good tourist destination
and they also passes the museum in the village as it will attract more tourist to the village.

There are other places which are used as a tourist destination that gives you the taste of rural
lifestyle such as Kalki mystic farm which is located in Gari hasru village in Haryana, pratapgarh
farm and ratangarh farm located in jhajjar, MG farm in Hisar

These are some places which are the tourist places which comes under rural tourism which
shows that rural tourism has lot of potential and that to in place like Haryana where farming is
one of the biggest profession and in today’s time children born in urban area does not know
anything about villages and the life villagers face so this type of tourism is the way in which
people can explore the rural life, have some adventure and get to know many things that is
very new to them. This also benefit the people living in that area they have another source of
income.

Benefits of the rural tourism are:-

 It creates and generates employment and income for the residents of rural areas and
especially for the women who have almost no opportunities to earn income.
 Beneficial for the local products and services and also keep them alive.
 In today’s time it helps in slowing the urban drift because it provides the better option
to earn and can have better economic future.
 Helps in preserving old tradition and customs, traditional festivals, some unique
practices and food.
 Helps the locals to interact with people and they can share their things about culture.
 It also motivates them to conserve and take care of natural resources like rivers,
mountains, plants and animals and endangered animals also because these are the living
asset to attract income.

SUSTAINABLE TOURISM IN HARYANA

Haryana government should try to make more rural tourism destination and make policies.

Day 1 (15 May, 2018): Received the topic ‘Potential of Rural Tourism in Haryana’ from my assigned mentor Mr.
Vaibhav Bhatt

Day 2 (16 May, 2018): Started a research on Haryana using Newspapers, Websites related to Ministries of Haryana
Government.

Day 3 (17 May, 2018): Started finding some links in the state using my personal Contacts and taking the Help of my
Friends

Day 4 (18 May, 2018): Received some Contact No. And Whatsapp images from the state which will help be in
observing things.
