Description Codes are used to identify the nature
of the failure / defect when completing a
Service Report / SIMS Entry.
Use the Secondary Numeric Codes to provide
problem description.
In the rare case where a suitable
Secondary Numeric Code does not identify the
problem, the more generalized
“Default Secondary Code” will be accepted.
Each code is defined in the following table and should
be supplemented with “comments” to better explain
the defect. The comments appear for both Dealers
and Caterpillar and can provide valuable information.
A “SIMS Entry – Quick Reference Guide” is
provided on the reverse side of this document to allow
more efficient completion of the Service Report / SIMS
Entry. This guide contains Special Description Codes,
