There are recent designs and technologies for condenser units that can help air-

conditioning systems energy-efficient. There is a research by Parker et. al. (2004) for a
development design of a high efficiency air-conditioner condenser fans. The researchers
used factors such as fan performance, air flow, and sound control for the determining the
best design of the condenser fans that can give out the highest efficiency with less noise
and low rotational speeds.

They made a total of five fan designs. The first design uses a three-bladed metal
fan that is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM). The second one with three equally-
space blades with tapered and twisted air foils. The third design uses the same equally-
spaced blades but with the purpose of pressure rise. The fourth one has an asymmetrical
five-blade design. The last design utilizes forward curved blades. These designs are
tested using different diffuser elements. One with a slotted top, the second one has a
diffuser top, and the last has a wire-foam.

The researchers observed that on a slotted grill, the fourth design is the best
performer with power less than that of the standard fan. The fan with five blades with a
diffuser has an improved air efficiency that the standard configuration with a lower noise
level. They concluded that the used of five-blade asymmetrical fan as shown above will
draw in more air at low noise levels.

There are some recent innovations for the design of a condensed unit such as the
condenser unit that is used of marine applications. This type of condenser has a reversing
valve, pressure switches, and service ports that a centrally located for easy maintenance
access.
Some designs of condenser units such as shown above have a large surface area
coil to optimize airflow and heat transfer. They use an axial flow fan assembly with blades
that are designed to produce less noise.

Condenser units are an important component to the air-conditioning system and

therefore it should be improved. The factors that were mentioned earlier should be take
into consideration when designing a condenser unit as these factors help the unit the
overall air-conditioning system to operate normally.
