Lesson Purpose/Objective:
Students will complete a meta-cognitive exercise on their test performance
for Unit 9 test on 3D Geometry.

Standard: CA CCSSM: 1) Make sense of problems and persevere in solving

them. And 6) Attend to precision.

Domain A – Organization and Preparation

District provided computers
Pencil
Worksheets – Histogram Practice

Students have already been supplied with District provided computers

– stored in the classroom. Teacher will provide Histogram Practice
worksheet to students.

Domain B - Assessment
Pre-assessment:
Students use ExtraMath.com to practice early math facts for 5 minutes at the
beginning of each class day.

Students will complete independent practice worksheet on Histograms.

Closure:
Students will work on Aleks.com if there is time in class.

Domain C – Engagement (list relevant instructional strategies)

Students will sit in their assigned seats in the classroom. Students
take their seat and begin working on their warm Up activity of Extra
Math.com. This website flashes math problems, addition, subtraction
and multiplication.

Teacher will observe students as they work on the Warm Up activity.

At 10 minutes, students will lead students in completing an
independent practice on Histograms. Teacher will review answers to
the worksheet activity with students. Teacher will monitor student
responses to teacher prompts.

Teacher will review the worksheet answer with students and place
information in the grade book.

ELL and SEP students will be additionally monitored and assisted

during the independent practice time to insure their understanding of
the material. An additional modeling of the problems may occur as
needed.

Advanced students will be challenged with extending their thinking

when the opportunity arises.

If students complete the assignments before the end of the class

period, students will be instructed to continue working on their Weekly
Homework #31 A and 31B, found in their Classroom Edulastic account.
This last activity is only utilized if there is time in the schedule.

Teacher will instruct students to place all materials and computers

away 2 minutes prior to the end of class.

Teacher will dismiss students at the end of the period for them to go to
lunch.

Domain D - Planning
This lesson is for Day 5 of our 3D in our Geometry unit. The SSP and I have
worked in collaboration over the last few weeks to set the pacing for the unit,
for the materials taught and the material reviewed for the final unit test. We
follow the same pacing for the class with each instructional day. We begin
with a Warm Up activity that is a review of past lessons. We will review and
grade the homework that is due that class day and we have a teacher
directed lesson. Some days we also have modeling of problems and then
student work on an independent practice worksheet or online assignment.
Early finishers of the independent student practice may have time to
complete homework if there is time left in the period.

Domain E – Classroom Management and Learning Environment

The class will begin with the Warm Up activity that is based on prior units of
study. Students are to enter the classroom quietly, take out their materials
and sit down to begin the Warm up activity. Students are beginning to follow
the directions for the routine and have begun to settle in and begin work with
less disruption. The Warm Up activity serves to create a predictable routine
for the students to begin class and a way to keep bringing past lessons back
into their thinking. This should assist students in remembering lessons for
standardized testing this month.

Students need reminders to transitions quietly and efficiently but generally

stay on task during the teacher directed lessons and during their independent
practice time. Any student that requires a repeated reminder to act
respectfully in class will have their parent contacted about in class behavior.
This seems to work well for this group of students. Students have 32 class
days left in school and are still focused on learning at this time.

The classroom environment and learning environment is structured and

generally organized, allowing the students to know what is expected of them
as class begins in an environment that feels safe and comfortable. The
students are seated in rows as it is a full classroom of students.

Domain F – Professional

I plan to demonstrate professionalism by consistently conveying a firm but

caring tone in my actions and demeanor towards the students. The
importance of my demonstrating a consistent level of firmness and friendly,
caring demeanor is that students at this age need a teacher with firm rules
and routines to keep their behavior in check but also a caring teacher to help
build confidence and competence in their math studies. I will guide and
encourage my students to ask questions, seek help and maintain a
willingness to learn material they may feel is new or difficult.

My appearance will be professional and approachable. I feel it is important to

portray an aura of respect for what I am doing and for the students and staff
in the school.
