604 from Roldanillo Valle del cauca, I am an English teacher


here in the Fray Jose Joaquin Escobar High School of Toro Valle del cauca, I teach English to students from 8 to 11 grade.

I have a degree In Licenciature in English teaching in the year 2012 from the university: tecnologica de Pereira, I have been an English teacher for six years and
nowadays, I am studying a master in Management of Educational Technology in the Santander University.

About the context, Toro valle is a small municipality located in the North of the department of valle del cauca, The economy of the municipality is based on
agricultural production. Toro is known in the country for its local fairs, and its “carnaval de la alegria”, I mention this parade because is it very common for
students to meet many foreign people during those days and to have cultural exchange and short conversations in English with these people.

Ok now let’s talk about my high school, the educative Institution Fray Jose Joaquin Escobar offers education from kinder garden to 11 grades, and it also has a
special program of education for adults on weekends.

The population is of 750 students divided in 4 different places, the central high school and 3 more primary schools, here In the high school we have students
with different social and economic conditions, we have students from low and middle class and we are an inclusive high school, because we have kids with
special learning problems, special needs and we have students from indigenous tribes too, but these conditions don`t affect either the academic or the
disciplinary part inside the High-school.

the high school has an emphasis on the socio-cultural pedagogic model and we as teachers every year, try to adapt the proposed curriculum to the students
context AND NEEDS in order to develop what is stated in the PEI about the developing of critical students able to transform their reality taking advantage of
the problems they face.

In my class I always try to address the Institutional PEI, since I always work based on the “planes de mejoramiento anuales” and I also take into account all the
new policies of ENGLISH TEACHING and the results from external tests.

Regarding to bilingualism, we have a project called “J.J bilingue” which is a project created to develop the communicative competence of the students,
through the performance of speeches and songs in English in every special celebration inside the high school.
Now let’s talk about the group, Today I will have a class with my students of 10-2 grade, a group of only men, with students from 13 to 18 years, they are
characterized for being a good group with a very good behavior inside the classroom, they have good disposition towards English class, they have a passion for
music and for technology topics, I like their ability to participate, to work individually and also their cooperative work.

Most of the students from this group come from broken homes and some of them live in the slums of toro, such as: El chanco and El lazaro, however this
context and socio economic differences are not much as a problem inside the class because students values and behaviors are not different to the others from
better neighborhoods, and they get on well perfectly.

Now talking about the class, we are going to work on 1 basic learning standard that sayS:

1. Writes narrative, descriptive and explanatory texts related to topics of interest

THE TOPIC OF THE CLASS IS “URBAN TRIBES”

And the OBJECTIVE OF THE CLASS is that at the end of it, students will learn about urban tribes, the clothes they wear and the activities they do. They will
also learn to describe urban tribe member and they will be able to write a descriptive text about the topic.

The class will have 3 moments.

The first moment is a warm up activity in order to motivate and engage students with the class, It will be individual and they will work on old and new
vocabulary

Then we will make a listening activity in groups of 3, making mental reading, and at the end I am going to make a reading comprehension activity, using
YES/NO questions and TRUE or False questions.

The final activity is a cooperative work activity, in groups, and students will have to produce a written descriptive text about an urban tribe and design a poster.
